pandora w/o seeing the movie?

I went to AK last summer on a spur of the moment trip, so I didn't have time to watch Avatar before going. Pandora was pretty, but it didn't really make sense to me.

DD15 and I went back in October and made a point to watch the movie a few days before we left. Pandora was even better after watching the movie. I didn't do FoP the second trip, DD did though, and said it was so amazing. I could barely stomach it the first time, I didn't want to risk it again. Navi River Journey had more meaning. It was just more impressive to me after having watched the movie.

Well, obviously, one shouldn't even bother going to Disney World at all unless they have seen:

Cinderella
Peter Pan
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Fantasia
Beauty and the Beast
The Little Mermaid
Sword in the Stone
Toy Story 1 - 3
Haunted Mansion
Pinocchio
Alice In Wonderland
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (What? When? Boooo! Okay, scratch that one.)
Princess and the Frog
Sleeping Beauty
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The African Queen (not Disney but still - I mean, everyone should see that one anyway)
Lilo & Stitch (or wait, you can skip that one now)
All 5 Pirates of the Caribbean Movies
A Swiss Family Robinson
Song of the South
Aladdin
Dumbo
Country Bears
Monsters Inc./Monsters University
Frozen
Tangled
Finding Nemo & Finding Dory
The Three Caballeros & Saludos Amigos
Mission to Mars
At least 7 episodes of The Twilight Zone
Pocahontas
All 4 Indiana Jones Movies (soon to be 5)
The complete discography of Aerosmith
Star Wars, Star Wars, and more Star Wars
Avatar
Avatar: Extended Edition
Avatar: Extra Extended Edition (and know the difference - there's a quiz!)
Dinosaur
Lion King (and the sequels maybe?)

Go ahead and get a head start on Ratatouille and Guardians of the Galaxy Volumes 1 and 2 since that's coming our way. Oh, and Tron and Tron Legacy.

Okay, some of those are less important than others, but if you eat in a themed food venue, there's a back story! ;)

Seriously, that's why I love Disney. It permeates our lives so much, and yet they do a great job in the parks of making everything accessible whether you have seen the movies or not. Rest assured it's an enjoyable from the most hardcore Disney Nerd to someone who doesn't know who Figaro is. It's fun for all!

This is where I don't understand the questions about "will I like Pandora if I haven't see Avatar" or "should I ride FoP if I haven't seen Avatar"
There are so many rides at Disney based on movies and you never see questions about doing them if you haven't seen that movie. Why does it come up about Pandora? I really don't understand. I know/realize most have seen many but there's bound to be some folks haven't seen (like Song of the South) but it doesn't deter people from enjoying the rides.

Well, I think it's that the Disney classics are so ingrained in our collective culture that people know them, even when they've never actually seen them. Avatar isn't like that. Even Star Wars has a lot of recognition outside of the core fans, but Avatar is sort of this weirs, unknown thing. I think it's great how you can appreciate the Disney parks without knowing tha tmuch about the movies. Actually, I find that the attractions can make me more interested in certain movies and appreciate them more. There's no way to go wrong.

I say “Watch the movie!”. Even if you hate it, you will at least have a better appreciation for the incredible detail the imagineers put into Pandora. You don’t have to watch it to enjoy the land but I believe it will enhance your experience.

Glad to see a lot of movie fans on this thread. Where have ya'll been hiding? ;) I still say that I don't think it's necessary to see it, but hey, it's a good movie, so why not watch it?
This! Why not just watch the movie :confused3. Like it or not it will give you better perspective on the ride. When the ride first opened they had the movie on a continuous loop at the resorts. I must've watched all or part of it at least a dozen times last June. It's a great movie! Lots of action and fantasy and imagery and beasts!

I have only seen the first 30 minutes of the movie. Do I think you need to see it in order to understand the ride? Absolutely not! There is a very good explanation prior to the ride when you are in "the room" waiting to board. If you pay attention, you will understand what is going on.

Hands down the best ride in Disney!

I've been meaning to watch Avatar for years - finally I will at some point before December
