Pandemic Strategies for WDW Trip

Interesting - nobody has mentioned that an N95 mask often has an exhaust valve on it. Disney doesn't allow masks with valves.

- Since you won't be able to wash masks, bring enough that you can have at least one fresh mask per day.
- I know everyone's all about cleaning things and washing hands, but since the virus is airborne, I question the value of washing hands after each ride. I think the real issue in this case is, Don't touch your face.
- On the other hand, washing your hands before you eat is very important.
- If you're carrying a water bottle, wash your hands before you open /close the bottle.
- When you eat, choose outdoor seating.
- Be conscious of what you touch; for example, push through turn styles with your body instead of using your hands ... don't lean on the fences as you wait in line for rides.
- Be conscious as you enter and leave the parks; those are high-crowd times.
- Bring alcohol wipes so you can wipe down your phone when you return to the room.
- When you come back to your room, don't lounge about in the clothes you wore in the parks. Immediately shower and change into something clean (before sitting on your bed or chair), even if it means packing more heavily than you usually would.
- Consider that the things you take /wear into the park could be contaminated ... and you want to keep your room clean. I'd think about a plastic tub in which to store your shoes and your park bag. Or clean them thoroughly upon returning to your room.
- Upon arrival, when you wipe down your room, don't neglect the remote control and the alarm clock.
- Refuse housekeeping service.

Yeah, masks with valves are not good for COVID! Our N95 masks don't have valves. I think it's more common to find them without valves nowadays, given the pandemic.

Dear DISboards hive mind:

My partner and I have had a WDW trip planned since before the pandemic. We are staying at Riviera the week after Thanksgiving (first week of December) and plan to go to each park once. From what I've seen on these boards and elsewhere, Disney is still doing a good job with safety measures and folks are managing to keep their Disney trips and staying relatively safe. But given the rising numbers of cases, we are trying to strategize to maximize safety while keeping our trip (I know, the safest would be to stay home; trying to find a middle ground here). Below is what we're thinking, does anyone have any other useful tips or advice? Folks who have been to the parks recently might have some good thoughts regarding best practices.
  • Driving from NC with no overnight stops
  • Using disinfectant wipes to clean high-touch areas in our resort room (probably overkill since Disney cleans these, but we always did this before COVID anyway so we'll stick with it)
  • Doing our 4 park days during the week to avoid the weekend crowds
  • Mobile order for meals at the parks
  • Wearing our N95 masks
  • Hand washing after each ride
  • Leaving and coming back later if one of us starts feeling uncomfortable
We are in our early 30s and don't have any adverse conditions so feel okay with some risk, and we're very ready to get some fun into this crazy year. We know we can't be 100% sure we won't be exposed, but it won't hurt to try! Like I said above, any other tips/best practices will be appreciated!

I, too, use disinfectant wipes in hotel rooms on things like the TV remote, door handles, and the phone. Before COVID, my family thought I was paranoid. Now they don't think I'm paranoid anymore.

You could also opt to eat at off times. For example, at lunch time, you could eat early (11 am) or after 1:00 pm. Then the odds are better that there won't be as many people vying for the same tables as you are.

Yeah, I was rather germophobic before the pandemic and my family thought I was weird. It's nice to feel normal for a while! 🤣

We're not ready to eat table service with people around not masked. It's too bad because one of my favorite things at Disney is the food! But it's okay, many of the quick service places and snack stands have great food, too.
