They say every village needs it's idiot. So I guess I fill that requirement for the WISH. I'll share my simple way of looking at some issues.

We are facing the highest gas prices we have ever seen in our country. But let me put this in perspective. Yes we are going to have to change some things in our lives and adjust our budgets a bit. It will take a bigger portion of our hard earned money to keep our gas tanks filled. But a good portion of the world faces a daily struggle to fill their bellies and fed their families. Let's not let this steal our joy for living. We can let our elected officials earn their generous paychecks by fighting the gas price increases.

One of the things we often loose as we grow up is our belief that all things are possible. We grow out of our belief in magic and we no longer believe in the awesome power that we all have to control our own thinking. We can't tie a bath towel around our neck anymore and become a super hero. We can't believe in our dreams anymore. Or can we?

We have, as adults a wonderfull opportunity to make ourselves into athletes and we have the opportunity to become better than we would ever allow ourselves to dream possible.

You have all heard the silly old saying that "Today is the first day of the rest of your life". Surely that can't be true, the past controlls us right. What if today really was the first day of the rest of your life? Should we look at it as the second chance we always wished we had, or just blow it off and continue on as always.

What if you had a no negotiation talk with your self and laid down the law with yourself, you are the boss right? Tell yourself how it's gonna be. Tell yourself that you will no longer find excuses, that you will from now on eat to live and not live to eat. Tell yourself that you are going to exercise regularly, it's now part of your job.

When the silly old panda puts on his amour, his workout clothes and shoes, he is actually tieing that bath towel around his shoulders like a cape and becoming his own super hero. He is not going out and saving the world. What he is actually saving is his own life. He is walking away from that 'out of shape old man' who was just going through the motions. He is daring to dream that he can be better and faster. He is believing in the impossible dream that you can become your own hero again.

I'd like to end this "YARC" post with a group hug for all my WISH and my DisneyRunning friends.:grouphug:

Stand up tall, lift your head up and be proud of knowing what you (we) are all accomplishing here. We are doing something that over 90% of this Country has made a decision not to do because it is too much work. We are taking care of ourselves to make sure that we can live healthy, happy and with longevity.

I applaud you oh rambling Panda:worship: for your insight and to help us remember what we are truly doing here.

I try to make it a point to exercise on a regular basis because my body will tell me to get back at it if I don't.

I hear all the excuses, my favorite is I don't have time.... Excuse ME!! we all get the same 24 hours in a day. FIND the time.

I remember one of my favorite Dear Abby letters. Someone wanting to go back to college and this person said - but when I graduate in 4 years I will say be -- 40. Abby replied, and how old will you be in 4 years if you don't graduate? I did tell that to my husband when he wanted to start is business 26 years ago. He thought he was too old. Your never to old to do what you LOVE. This is being said by someone who will be 54 in a few weeks and training for my 2nd 1/2 marathon. I look at people 1/2 my age and I can out walk them by a LOT. Fit in a smaller size jean and look good in them. But none of those things count if I don't feel good wearing them.

The only person holding you back is YOU. Train for yourself, compete against the clock no one else, be stronger, healthier and happier.

I just got done having a similar conversation with DH. He was saying that he was impressed that I found time in my day to exercise and I told him that I don't FIND it, I MAKE it. And some days when I cannot, I just have to grin and bear it (or grit my teeth, whichever works). He decided that he needed to MAKE time too.

I feel that most people who make that excuse that they don't have time, really need to reevaluate their lives. How much time does it take to go to McDonalds or the mall? I take great pride in the fact that, when the fuel prices go over $10 a gallon (as they are currently predicting), I can bike the 7 miles to the grocery store and fill my saddle bags full and still bike back. I can also, literally, run to my kidlets games in town.

Ramble on, Panda....your words of wisdom inspire us to perspire!! Ooooh, and can I be Catwoman???? :rolleyes1

Maybe your DOOL, dear other of Lisa, can join us on here? I'm sure he would enjoy bantering with the rest of the guys.

I really think we are on the verge of a new era. The gas prices are going to force us in this country to get back into people powered transportation. If you go to Europe or Asia, bikes and scooters are everywhere. We in the US need to take a page from there book and make our towns and cities bike/walk friendly.

I was in the shower this morning thinking about this post and wondering if I had sounded angry in my post. I was not. Thanks for funwalker for agreeing and taking the time to post. I appreciate it.

I did my exercises last night for my neck even tho it was 10 pm, and I was tired it needed to be done. You guys keep me in line.:yay:

You didn't sound angry at all, you sounded determined.

In the Narnia movie the Lion is actually symbolizing God. All during the move the little girl keeps thinking about and imagining she sees the lion. Finally at the end she goes off into the forest, chased by the evil riders to find him. When she does, the lion asks her what took you so long to seek me.

In our lives a lot of us wait forever for a sign that it's time to change our lifestyles and get serious about getting healthy. The fact that your thinking about it is your sign. As the saying goes, "if your out of shape, you know it". We need to stop waiting and get started on our journey.

Denise you said it better in your post, that how old would you be if you didn't. I think I'm about 20 years younger than I was 6 years ago.

This is so true. I often have people at work as me how I find the time or why I do it. I find the time because it's important to me....it's MY time. No one else's and I deserve it. As for why, well I am starting to look better and more importantly feel better both physically and mentally.

Being unable to work out this week I'm finding to be horrible. My legs have been hollering to be taken out for a walk, abs and upper back just aching to get in some good yoga/pilates type stretches. All the uninjured parts just unhappy to not be doing something.

Appears I'm now addicted....and loving it! :goodvibes

Golf was once my addiction, and now it's running. I'm a runner with a Disney problem.

Gas prices here in Honolulu, has gotten me on my bike on the days I don't need my car at work.

There are many times that I 'don't want to exercise' and I have to have a talk with myself. Basically it's " you know you will feel better if you go work out", and so I go work out. Does it take away from other things? Of Course!!! Is it worth it? Yes! My dad died from at heart attack at 42 (I was 16) so I always have that reminding me how important exercise and diet is for my well being.
I am now pushing 55 and although I may not 'want' to exercise every day, I know that I feel better if I do.

That's a great post Dave! It's the sort of thing I've been needing to hear lately. I haven't been making as much time for my weight/core training as I would have liked. My excuse was that I didn't have the time but like everyone else here says it's about making the time.

Thank-you for the motivation!
