You can also check with your public health agency/travel immunization clinic and see what they say. You can also check the CDC website which will give you basic recommendations. We always go to our travel immunization clinic (our GP won't even answer the question - he just references us to the clinic). It's actually much better for us because they'll also prescribe Ciprol to take with you just in case and Dukoral if necessary. And they check to make sure your regular tetanus and other shots such as measles are up to date. A travel immunization clinic will also be more likely to be up to date with any recent outbreaks that your local doctor might not be completely aware of.
Strangely I really hadn't thought about it much until your thread. I checked the CDC site and now I'm on the fence. Even though we are aboard ship and exposure to mosquitos will be minimal I'm really wondering if a Yellow Fever fax might be a good idea. Even if it's unlikely, YF is not something you want to mess with at all.
The vax maps show the canal zone being in both the YF and malaria areas of concern. http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/yellowb...er-malaria-information-by-country/panama#4765

Yes, if you get off the ship and travel in the more jungle areas, there are reasons for concern. If you're remaining on the ship as it passes through the canal, you're pretty much OK.

We did the 2015 WBPC cruise. If there was a mosquito looking to bite someone, it would have found me...and I did not get a single bite. We always keep current on tetnus, but did not get/need any other shots (per both military medical and Kaiser).
I lived in Panama for 4 years while stationed there with the US Army. No extra vaccinations were required. No one was discussing yellow fever. We did special MOPP training in the jungle. (which was pretty miserable in the heat and humidity) The only thing they told us to be concerned about was black palm and the bushmaster snake. (They chase you) Mosquito spraying trucks went by the housing area frequently. That's about it. Having said that, I agree that it doesn't hurt to consult your doctor.
