Pam's Low Carb Road (Comments Welcome)

This is the 6th day of not feeling well. Now, I'm on antibiotics for strep. The whole family is down with something or other.....DH went to emerg. room this morning for antibiotics....strep, ofcourse!
All I feel like eating is toast for breakfast and chicken noodle soup, hot choc. , etc. ...things like that. I also have to take a ton of cough syrup.....yuck! I can hardly blame my kids for not wanting to take it. And I don't even want to think about how many carbs are in it. To think I have to waste carbs on something so yucky, but it's the only thing that has worked so far. Here's hoping tomorrow is better!!!

Oh, Pam, here's a  for you. I'm glad it's a computer hug though, cuz that strep does NOT sound fun!! I hope you and your family are feeling better soon!!

You'll be back on track in no time!! :sunny:

Well, the illnesses are over, Christmas and New Year's are over.............now it's time to start a new year for a new me!

I'm on Day 3 of lo-carb. Feeling good. Especially feeling good that I'm actually doing something instead of feeding my face.:D

B - 3 eggs, 2 oz. ham, hot tea, splenda

L - protein bar, tea, splenda

D - small serving of ham and bean soup

I know I had more carbs for dinner but I made this for my family and it was so healthy and good. I had a small bowl of it so I didn't go hog wild (no pun intended :teeth: ). But this was a MAJOR thing for me.......a small serving. I kept in control and felt good about that all night. I wasn't anywhere near full like I usually am.

Hi Buddy, You posted to my journal now I'll post to yours. Three days back on program thats great!!!! Keep up the good work!!! Remember to keep drinking the water, some days I feel like I'm going to float away LOL but it really helps.
Thanks for helping to motivate me to get back on track!

Cheryl:wave2:

Thanks Cheryl, my bud! I needed that reminder of the water.

I also think I'm going to make some veggie soup today. I have been reading about the WW soup and when I went to WW, I would make that soup. It was good. Couldn't have too much of it because I wouldn't get out of the bathroom!! But this week, I think soup sounds so good. How about.........chicken broth, yellow squash, cabbage, kale, spinach, chopped tomato (not too much of this), a little onion, mushrooms, maybe some brussel sprouts, thyme, salt, pepper, hot sauce, garlic.........I'll add up the carbs as I go to see what it comes out to be.

B - protein bar, tea, splenda

L - 3 eggs, ham, mayo, mustard

D - a little ham, small cheeseburger, no bun, sugar-free jello

water, water, water.............

Pam it looks like you had another good day! Keep it up!! Thanks for posting about the soup, it does seem like it would be pretty lo carb and good carbs too. I've made something very similar to this and added chicken to it, I think I'll make a pot of it this week too.

Cheryl

Well, I've lost 5 pounds since I started back Saturday. WI was 265. Still have to lose 9 pounds to get back to where I was. But I'm in the zone, so I just need to keep at it.

B - 3 eggs, cheese, tea, splenda

L - protein bar, tea, splenda

lots of water today..........yeah!!!

D - two big burgers, one with cheese and one with blue chees dressing. Man, was I hungry (which doesn't happen often on this diet) ,earlier, I had a little sloppy joe burger

I had gone to church tonight knowing that they were serving sloppy joes. I thought I would have a little without the bun, and then maybe some raw veggies if they had some. Well, I had about two tablespoons of it but there wasn't anything else to eat other than PASTA salad. Ugh!! So I came home starving and made myself two burgers. Boy were they yummy. I hadn't had a burger in a while, I think.

Today I am, um.......well, in the bathroom a lot, if you know what I mean. Usually, I get this way when I first start lo carb. I think it's my body's reaction to the high fat diet and being in ketosis again. So I decided to check to see if I was in ketosis by doing a test strip. YEAH!!!!! I'M IN KETOSIS!! I'M SO HAPPY. That means I'm doing something right. And after today, my bowels should be back to normal. I've read where some people get constipated on this diet. Boy, it certainly has the opposite effect on me! But if I ever do, I just push the salad.

B - Fresh, hot, turkey sausage and two scrambled eggs, coffee with cream.

L - protein bar, tea w/splenda

D -

Hey Buddy, Just wondering how's it going?? I PMed you awhile ago and haven't heard anything from you in awhile. I hope all is well with you and you're still doing so good with your eating!

Cheryl:wave2:

Hey Cheryl, you're the best!

OK. I'm trying for a two week, cheat free period. I'm on Day 3. I can tell I'm doing ok because of the headaches I've been having. It's amazing that even after 7 years of on and off low carbing, when I've been bad and then I go back to following the plan, I still have major reactions/withdrawls. My body must be highly sensitive to carbs.

Breakfast - 3 eggs, cheese and 1 slice sausage

Lunch - Atkins protein bar, hot tea w/splenda

Dinner - 4 oz roast beef, 1 hotdog, cheese, mustard, salad

and appr. 80 oz of water, not including 3 cups of hot tea(I would have made a great Englishman!:D

HEY! I JUST DID MY KETO STICK AND IT IS DARK PINK! YAH! YAH! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!:Pinkbounc

Hi Pam, Congrats on being in ketosis, keep up the great work! It looks like your back on track again. I hope the headaches get better today as you body adjusts again. I had a whopper of a headache yesterday too. It sounds like we're both in about the same stage again. Hey that's what buddies are for, right!

Keep up the great work!!!!!

Cheryl:bounce:

Hey buddie, what would I do without you?... I don't want to know.

Another good day today. (Well, except for doing math with my 5th grader.....always a joy!.......NOT!) Homeschooling is definately the hardest job I have ever had. It's mothering kicked up a notch or two. I know God gave me the desire to do this because He knew I needed to learn patience! And a few other things, I might add.

Well, my buddie Cheryl and I (and anyone else who wants to join us) are doing a two week cheat free challenge. This is day 5, I think. She is doing great and so am I but we have some challenges coming up. Going to THE MOVIES!!!!!! No, no, no. No popcorn for either of us.

Another way of bringing in some accountability to my plan is to wake up everyday, look at my children and say, "I promise you that today I will not cheat". I will be eating something and they will say, "Are you allowed to eat that?". And I say, "Ofcourse, I promised you, didn't I??" So far, it seems to be working for me. I can't sneek anything because that would be breaking a promise to my DC or like lying to them.

What I've eaten today:

Breakfast - Herbalife choc. fudge protein bar and tea - 3.5 carbs

Lunch - salad with cheese, tuna and Newman's Own dressing. - 6.5 carbs

Dinner - This sounds horrible, but I wasn't really hungry for all that much. I am in deep ketosis according to my stick. Deep purple! I actually needed to lie down for a little while and had a little headache. When I got up all I wanted was some tea and another protein bar. I'm sure I'll be hungry tomorrow morning.
- 3.5 carbs

Total carbs today - 13.5

hey pam, looks like you're doing a great job! and the cheat free challenge sounds good...too bad i had a cheat day on feb 1. but i have been cheat free since! i'm keeping track of cheat free days in feb, but i'm also gonna join in on your challenge! let me know when it ends, i want to be able to make it! good luck guys, i know you can do it :bounce:

Hey Marcia,

We'll be glad to have you along. I think you are exactly where we are at. I had a cheat day to last Sun., Feb. 1, so I started back up on Monday. That would make today our 5th day, right? So the morning of Feb. 16th we would have made 14 days. I guess that is what we shoot for, Feb. 16th.

What plan do you follow Marcia?? That's great that you have been cheat free and that you are going for a cheat free Feb. (Well, let's forget the first day of Feb. because there is an extra day at the end:D )

And again, welcome to our challenge.:sunny:

Today may have some challenges to it. But I am determined to get through them.

My DH is taking me to see Lord of the Rings today. He has arranged everything...the babysitter, the tickets, the schedule....he is the sweetest to me. We have decided to eat at Friendly's after the movie. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on dinner since the babysitter is going to cost about $40, and movies $16 (we are trying very hard at our new budget:) ). Dinner will be around $ 25-30. Wow! No wonder we only do this once every month or two!

I figured I would get some kind of grilled chicken dinner with salad and blue cheese dressing. For during the movie I have already measured out 2 servings of soy nuts (it's a looong movie). For both servings it is about 10 carbs but when you think I am stretching that over a period of 3 1/2 hours, that's not too bad. Afterwards we will probably head over to Barnes and Noble for coffee (Ron) and tea for me. I would get a cappiccino, but just too many carbs for today.

Breakfast - Tea/splenda, Herbalife protein bar - I know, I know, but I was out of eggs and I didn't have time because ofcourse, I have to clean since the babysitter is coming!
Carbs = 3.5

Lunch - lunch will be my soy nuts. Not thrilling but I will enjoy crunching something salty at the movies.
Carbs = 10

Dinner- We shall see................................:)

Woooooo Hoooooo!!! I'm so excited to be with my man of almost 19 years!!!!! Who said growing old together is boring! THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE MISSING!:lovestruc :cool1: puckerup:

Thanks so much for the PM Pam!

Pam YOU are doing so great! I am so proud of you 'girlfriend'! I'm sorry that I haven't been around here much. I'll try to stop back more often because I really value YOUR support!

Have a terrific date night sweetie. I LOVE friendly's! I often get the steak/shrimp fajita's without the bread. Just load up on the meat, lettuce, tomatoe, onion, peppers, and even some of the sour cream and hot sauce. It always fills me up.

Enjoy your night! I know what you mean about it getting better as the years go on. DH and I will be celebrating our 22nd anniversary on our cruise [4/24]. I love him more every day!
:sunny:

Soooooooooo..... How was your hot date? Is your man noticing any changes? It's funny how they can miss the big picture. Maybe because they see you every day. I love to see peoples reactions whom I only run into occasionally. I had another big military function to attend last night with hubby and actually got into a dress I haven't worn in 2 years. Everyone loved my "new" dress. I knew I kept those smaller sizes for a good reason. Keep hanging in there. :teeth:

hey pam, you asked what plan i follow...the answer is weight watchers. i do it online.

anyway, sounds like you had a really nice night planned out with dh!! hope it went well and you had a great time :bounce:

IT WAS GREAT!!!:teeth:

I loved the movie and we went out to Friendly's afterward. I had salad with blue cheese dressing, cajun spicy chicken breasts with melted cheese and steamed broccoli. It was delicious.

Then we went to Barnes and Noble and I bought the best book. It is called, "Living the Low carb Life". Anyone who is on a low carb diet has got to read this book. Fascinating!

We had a wonderful time from beginning to end. My DH isn't perfect, (if he was, he wouldn't have married me;) ) but I am SO BLESSED to have him as a husband. God has been very good to me. :lovestruc

Kinda makes you want to fall in love all over again.:rotfl:
