PamNC - July the 4th @ Epcot

I was also at EPCOT for the 4th. We had a grand gathering and had VIP seating behind the gift shop in Mexico. Very intense, maybe a little too close especially for my DD6. She hid in my shoulder for a lot of it. Anyway, I also had more of a red swelling, - welts rather than actual rash- and really not too itchy. Only bothered me when I shaved my legs. Weird.

I think you were asking this question of Pam, not me, but since I had the rash too, I'll answer it anyways ;)

Yes, I am very fair-skinned - pretty much pasty white, which goes along with the red hair. Is fair skin a common denominator among sufferers of "the rash"?

I just came back this past Wed. from a trip to WDW and wanted to find out more about "the ankle rash " that I too got ,after a long day at Animal Kingdom! It looked liked a cross between a sunburn and an allergic reaction. The next morning I was worried and went to a First Aid Station, where the nurse assured me it wasn't too dangerous and actually pretty common among overweight(.poor circulation)..,fair-skinned, over 40ish people and actually more commen in women( I am all of the above).I thought that being a R.N. myself that I might need some antibiotics ,since it looked like the beginnings of a cellulitis. She said not to worry and gave me some topical hydrocortisone ointment and said to put my legs up and rest them when I get back to the room and to "ice" them which I did that nite and the next day, too. the stayed red /rashy for the next 4 days or so and now they look better. I was a bit nervous then, but feel a little better to know that I"m not the only one to have this happen to...hopefully next visit I'll be in better shape and not as overweight !!!! I think that had alot to do with it . :earsgirl:

MegandMinnie,

So you got the rash too? I think pirate of the carolinas has it right. I think it is something that comes up from the asphalt...the heat and reflection and your blood vessels swell up. I'm not fair skinned..I have dark hair and I'm quite dark for a white girl...olive skinned actually. I'm not overweight, but I am over 40. How much over I won't say. You know, now that I think about it, most of the people we saw with the rash were indeed women over 40. Hmmmmm. Anyway, I don't think weight or skin tone has anything to do with it. It's the first time it's happened to me, and I sure hope it's the last. It's ugly, isn't it? Yuk.
