I know this information is out there somewhere, but I wasn't able to do a search...

I am getting all my info ready so I can start filling my family in on what I have planned and let them make a few decisions of their own. I am looking for some details about Palo's high tea so DH and I can decide if we want to do this. Answers to my questions and opinions from those who have tried it are appreciated!

- Is it worth going if you don't drink tea?

- What sorts of food is served?

- How is it presented? Buffet or menu-based, tables for two or combined groups?

- How long does it last?

- I believe there is no charge for this, correct? Are you expected to tip?

Thanks in advance for your help!

High Tea at Palo's

One of the best additions to the 7 Night Cruise program is the High Tea offered at Palo. Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m., guests may enjoy the amazing delicacies offered by Chef Simone. Freshly baked raisin scones are served with a decadent Devonshire cream and tasty apricot and strawberry jams. Enjoy the dainty finger sandwiches of smoked salmon and cucumber, delicious chicken curry, traditional egg salad and crisp cucumber and cream cheese as you sip one of the ten teas offered. Selections include Orange Pekoe, English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey, Chamomile, Hot Cinnamon Spicy, Black Currant, Peppermint, Lemon Verbena, and Darjeeling. The loose tea leaves are steeped tableside in individual pots. A creamy English trifle and mocha éclairs round out the offerings. This can be booked on embarkation day right at Palo and it is recommended that you do so.

Reviewers Comments : This was an outstanding experience. The teas (all loose) were delicious, as were the amazing finger sandwiches. Also, the service at Palo's should be mentioned here as being first rate (the server remembered our drink preferences from the night before). This is a "Not to be Missed" experience for adults. Outstanding.

I hate "tea" the drink but love "tea' the meal. Generally when I go to teas I am too embarassed to admit that tea tastes like wet leaves to me (i guess that's what it is!) so I always pretend to drink it... but I still had a wonderful time at the Palo tea! Next time I will see if they can get me an espresso instead!

The tea at Palo's sounds just lovely, and thanks to all that have provided information - but I have one last question (repeating from Lavne's original list, above): does the tea have an additional cost, like the other meals at Palo's? How much? And is a tip expected?

Not that the additional cost will keep me away - I'm just curious! Thanks!

No, there's no charge for the High Tea. As for gratuities... they're not required, but would be cheerfully accepted.

How do you give a gratuity at the Palo's high tea? Do you leave cash?

Are the High Teas only available on certain days?

We did not realize that there was no charge for high tea, so we did not bring any cash with us. We did see one other party who left some cash on their table.
I returned to Palo later to give a phone card to our server. We have Carita for high tea and Salvatore for dinner...they were both excellent!! We missed high tea when we did the Eastern, so I'm really glad we did it now. It was one of my favorite experiences of the cruise.
