How much does it cost to go to Palo's for dinner? Is there a tip involved?

There have been discussions on here regarding whether the $5 per person DCL charges for Palo's is actually a tip and whether the waiters really get that money.

Most of the responders stated that they gave additional money to the waiters in Palos - above and beyond the $5 per person charge.

We always tip additional at Palo. We figure what the cost of a similar meal would be in a comparable land restaurant and tip accordingly (the service has always been excellent so we feel it is well deserved). There will be a gratuity added automatically for extra cost beverages.

My understanding is that the $5 per person charge at Palo is divided equally among all of the servers in the restaurant. Anything you add to that goes directly to the person who served you.

The same is true for the 15% auto-gratuity for drinks. This is split among all of the bartenders/servers on the ship. If you add extra to the bill, that extra tip goes directly to the person who served you the drink.

Make sure you keep receipts for any charges you make at Palos.

Why? Well, on our 3/23 Magic cruise, early Saturday morning when I was looking at our statement I found DCL had creatively added a $132 bottle of wine to our Palos bill. I say "creatively' because we never ordered any bottles during that meal.

When I went down to passenger services to deal with this, the fact I had the receipts from our meal with me shut down any attempt by the CM at the desk to argue the issue or slow things down by going away for 10 minutes to the 'back office" to "check the files" (something that others have told almost always happens when people challenge statements at the service desk). The CM apologized and removed the wine bill the moment he realized I had "evidence" in my hands. ;)
