When is a good night to go to Palo's? We have two DD 6 and 3 and don't want them to miss anything. Also, is there a way to see what your rotation is so you can plan you restaurant schedule? :earsgirl: princess: princess: :firefight

we are wondering the same thing - we will be on the Eastern with DS 8 and DD 5

The snow is falling!!!

If you read the rotation menus for each of the nights, you may find that one doesn't particularly interest you. That might be a good night to schedule Palo - or depending on your activities during a Port call - you may want to stay on shore longer and a Palo reservations would fit into your schedule.

I don't care for the Mexicali/Tropicali menus or the Small World (Friday night) - so when we select a night, we will keep that in mind.

Any night, is a good night for Palo. I wish we would go more then once a cruise. If you do not make dinner....you have to make the brunch.... ( cuss me, I had to wipe my chin ).

When you get your Key to the world card at the port your dining rotation is printed on it, we usually make our calculations standing in line waiting to board the ship. It helps to pass the time!

We've never been before...and we are on the Wonder..
What restaurant would we want to miss not knowing anything much about any of them...?
Some seem to lean towards Parrot Cay and some more towards Animators...what is your opinions?

TIA :wave2:

Kathy :cutie:

PS- The snow is falling here too berly1657!! Its beautiful! :happy1:

I was wondering the same thing as well! I tried to calculate each dining rotation, and what the menu would be, taking into consideration if it was formal or semi-formal. I know we don't want to miss the Captain's Gala with the lobster!I guess we will just narrow it down. I figured we could go on Tropically night, then when we are done eating go back and change for the deck party and pick up the kids from the club! We'll see!!

I would go the second time you are in rotation for Animators palatte, since the show is only the first night.

We went on Friday night.

The kids were able to participate in the show, and then we went back and changed. Fed kids somewhere (I honestly don't remember), put them in the clubs and off we went.

Just remember, have most of your packing done ahead of time so you can relax and enjoy your dinner before you put out your luggage at 11:00 p.m.

Friday was a very quiet night at Palo, many had cancelled or just didn't show because of packing.

We went to Palo on the first night. While it was great because it was fairly empty, it was really swaying up there. Being at the top of the ship, going through the gulf stream, was not a good choice for us - two of us were very seasick and didn't enjoy our meals. Next time, we'll wait until another night when we're more adjusted to the motion of the ship.

Is this okay for the 4night cruise as well Jim? See, I was confused because I 'thought' the second night in whatever restaurant your in, they have what they call "chefs night or master chefs night"? And we didnt know what to do for sure...I dont know what we are missing or not...?
Sorry to hear that wink. :(

Kathy

This is one of the best points on the thread! Yes, the first night/gulf stream has killed many an appetite! Even in the rotation dining, it can be a "movin'" - just watch the palm tree cutouts around the windows sway back and forth!

I just spent all Sunday making charts trying to figure out what night we would try Palo. I didn't want to miss our regular rotation for the first or last night, I also didn't want to miss the Captain's Gala or Tropicali night. I think we decided to give up the Best of..night. I feel like I'm doing too much planning. I'll never understand how people who aren't lucky enough to have this board just get on the ship and go!

We were on the 3-night Wonder last October and therefore had to skip one of the restaurants. Someone suggested that since we hadn't cruised before we should do Palo the night we were in Nassau since the boat would not be moving until about 11:00. We took that advice and missed Animator's Palate - couldn't change the dining rotation to miss another one. I really enjoyed the food at Triton and at Palo - Parrot Cay was so-so I think I was just really full from all the food by then! Anyway, now I have to plan another cruise so I can try Animator's Palate LOL!

Also remember you don't have to "miss" anything! For example if you want to see the animators palate show and you are the early seating at dinner and have kids...
Make a 9PM Palo reservation..take the kids to animators palate... have an appetizer to hold you over...
Take the kids to the club after dinner and head for Palo... the best of all worlds!

I have to agree with rae, the sea gets bumpy on the first night. While for us it wasn't enough to rattle glasses off the table or keep our appetites down, I know my gf would have liked a more stable dinner.

Also, keep in mind that a lot depends on what time you get to board the ship. If you board later, you may not have much of a choice which is what happened to us. By the time we got to wavebands to make the reservation, only Sunday and Monday were left. We didn't want to miss Triton's, so we were left with Sunday (Parrot Cay) as the default.

Next time, we've resolved to get to the port earlier. Our travel agent says the bus from the Grand Floridian leaves the earliest, so that's where we're catching it next time!

Thanks all.... Alex your idea is great. We'll do just that!

Not sure what I would do on the 3 or 4 night, I was on the 7 night and opted to miss the mexacali menu as that was my least favourite, however I do know someone who missed the 2nd night at Animators palette and then because he had such a good time he double dipped the next night.... that means he attended his rotation dining and then came along to Palos..I won't mention names but he does like big Fish!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Good one there!

Hey, if you can take the calories - I say GO FOR IT! Personally, I find it very, VERY hard to be away from my servers - they make my evening so special!! Maybe Tom and I will have to try that!

On our recent four-day cruise, EVERYONE wanted Palo for the last night of the cruise -- seems logical, of course, because you would have been to each of the three rotation restaurants and you wouldn't repeat anything. I think the entire last night filled up before the other nights were even started!

The odd thing . . . when we arrived on the last night of the cruise, the restaurant was HALF EMPTY! We assumed that people were so wiped out by the day at Castaway Cay that they just didn't show up. Very disappointing, however, for the others who couldn't get the reservations they wanted.
