We are Marriott Vacation owners - we are planning a trip to CA next year. Would ideally like to stay at Marriott Villa at Newport Beach, however getting an exchange is slim for this resort. We are considering staying at either Marriotts Desert Spring 1 or 2 or Marriotts Shaw Ridge also in Palm Springs. We are planning to stay 8-9 days. A family of four - that includes a 15 and 16 year old boys. They are tough to please.

Questions:

Does anyone have a preference for either Desert Spring or Shaw Ridge Marriott resorts and why??

Would it be worth traveling from Palm Springs to Aneheim for a day trip. We are considering splitting our stay with a disney resort either before or after going to Palm Springs. What do you think?

Also is there any thing else to do in Palm Springs - though we like nature and would prefer the beach type of nature - what else is there to do or see while we are in Palm Springs, should we chose this option?

Thanks a bunch.

I really enjoy Palm Springs but usually only for a long weekend. I don't know what there would be to do for 8-9 days. Do you golf? That seems to be the predominate thing to do there (besides shopping, which is great but probably not for teen boys). What time of the year are you planning on going? High season runs from October to April, when the weather is perfect. Summers are really hot (no humidity) but coming from Phoenix it is something we are used to. I would do a 1 or 2 day trip to Anaheim and you could easily do several day trips to the Los Angeles area. If you could give me an idea of what your family likes to do, maybe I can be of more help.

When we go to Palm Springs we enjoy going to the Oasis waterpark. It's not a huge place, but it was enough to keep my teenagers happy. I can't help you with the 2 Marriott places in Palm Springs, but I have stayed at the one in Newport Beach. It was a really nice place and was about 20 minutes away from Disneyland.

We are planning to go in April 2008. Inland does seem about 15-20 degrees warmer than the coast. But, as I thought, there does not seem too much to do in Palm Springs. I do not want to be driving to the coast every day.

I think if we do not get the exchange for Newport Beach, we may just use marriott points - we have enough.

We want to do all the southern CA stuff, like South, may mexico, disney, of course.

Thanks.

I may be able to help you out a bit here. We did something similar this summer. We have a 14 year old girl and a 15 year old boy.
We stayed for one whole week in Anaheim (because we used our DVC points) and stayed at the Disneyland hotel. During tht week we spent a day at Universal a day at Huntington Beach, a day in Hollywood touring the stars homes. We also had time at the pool and nights at downtown Disney. That was a great location.
OUr next week was Palm Springs and I have to be honest with you this is probably the week I would have cut out of the trip. It is beautiful don't get me wrong, but bot a lot of things to do. We wound up signing up for a bus tour and going to Mexico for a day. They do have a beautiful town Palm Springs it was just so hot in June/July. You can drive to Joshua tree which isn't too far away or hang out at the pool. We ended our trip in Las Vegas four four nights which my kids seemed to like and that was a beautiful drive from Palm Springs.
-In retrospect we should have done our week in Disney and our five days in Las Vegas and skipped Palm Springs. We just figured that since we were out west we would see as much as possible and like you we had our timeshare to use so we traded it for Palm Springs.

We were able to get our week with Marriott Newport Coast Villa's. :cool1: I think this was the best option, plus let us be close to all attractions.

I would like to thank everyone for their help.
