Could someone tell me their opinions of Palio?

I have read the menu from Deb Willis' site, I would just really love to hear many opinions about the place.

I am looking for a nice dinner for our first night down. We are styaing at the Dolphin and it will be 12/30/03. We are looking for a place in the Boardwalk area without having to go anywhere else.

I've eaten there three times. The first time it was marvelous--one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. Superb service and excellent food in a very elegant atmosphere.

The second it was brutal. We were entertaining several guests, and the service was terrible and the food lackluster.

The third (and last) we started off pretty well with an attentive server. But then she got another party, and disappeared. Someone else served the food and ran away. She showed up a few minutes later and we asked for sauce for DS's chicken parm which had been served sauceless (?). She came back about half an hour later. By that time DS had given up and left to get a hotdog on the BW. The food was better than the previous time, but still not all "that". We won't go back.

Have you thought about trying Shula's? We ate there earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

First time at Palio's this past 9/13 (Wedding Anniversarry). We really enjoyed the food and service. Our waiter was Robert and he was excellent. Palio's has an extensive and rather expensive wine list focussing on Italian wines but not limited to them. It is moderate to expensive but quality was very good. We have added Palio to our A list which includes Citrico's, California Grille, Narcossees(sp), Jiko and Yachtsman Steakhouse.

thanks for both the reviews.

I haven't really considered Shula's....isn't it pretty formal? Maybe I have the wrong idea about the place. I was thinking it was a coat and tie type place.

We will be a family of four (kids 12 & 9) after driving for 11 hours.
We would like a nice sit-down meal, but nothing we have to dress up for. The drive down is another reason we wanted a place we could walk to. I know there are many restuarants in the Boardwalk area, I'm trying to decide which one!

Sorry, I didn't realize you would have kids with you.

Shula's has a "business casual" dress code, and no children's menu, and is very expensive. Frankly I'd dress up more for Palio than Shula's though.

For a casual and family oriented place, I'd go to Beaches and Cream or the Cape May Cafe.

The food at both is terrific, and they are both very family friendly and casual. The upside to CMC over B&C is that you can get a PS. The down side is that it's more expensive, although IMHO a VERY good value if you enjoy seafood.
