I went to a rally for Governor Palin on Monday, and nothing unseemly or offensive happened that I or the family members I went with could see. There were at least 25,000 people there.
Everyone was smiling, laughing, and talking. People were kindly giving out pre-packaged candy to people who were getting woozy in the heat. There were a small group of four Obama protestors there, and they simply held up their "Vote for Obama" signs as we entered. They didn't bother us, and I didn't see anyone bother them. During the actual rally, people cheered, sang, chanted "Drill baby drill" and things like that. Nothing rude or mean or inciteful was shouted out about anyone. At one point, thousands of us were singing along to Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA (Proud to be an American."
There are nuts on all sides. But hopefully the vast majority of Americans realize that the claims (by a few) that label Governor Palin's rallies as full of a bunch of racists and lynch mobs and all of the other words of the day know it's a bunch of bunk.
