Pal Mickey

I was just wondering if anyone has bought and used Pal Mickey around Disney World. How much is it and is it worth getting? Thank You.

he is cute and can be entertaining.

but I kept forget to take him with me on my WDW vacations....

Went to DW in Sept 05. My DD saw one and we asked the price from the worker from a stand by the entrance at Animal Kingdom was $80. Did not buy one so could not tell you if they are worth it. I just though that was a bit much for a 3 yrs old that has almost every disney favorite stuffed toy. Hope this helps.

At times, Pal Mickey is available at the Belz Outlets in St Augustine. They were less than $30 last time I saw them there last year.

We ordered ours from the outlet store and have had no problems with them updating.

We bought ours at DTD for $65 - it was the same price at all the other resorts and parks. Initially I was shocked at the price but it seems everything there cost more so we got it anyway. I enjoyed having him with me, especially at WS in Epcot - he had info for each country and was working overtime. I wouldn't say it's essential, but definately enhances the whole experience.

We borrowed one from a friend on our last trip and my DD8&5 just loved him. He told jokes, gave us tips, knew where we were everywhere in the parks and told us what was coming up ahead. We probably wouldn't have bought him on our own but he definately was a hit!

We bought ours the first year he came out for about $50 with a discount coupon. I forgot to take him last December, but we have used him several times, and it is fun to have. I usually give it to the youngest person in our party, or the one who has never been to WDW before.

Does anyone know if the old ones need anything done to them to get them to interact now that they have new improved versions?

the older ones don't have as much memory. that is the only different.

so they can't tell as many jokes.

Does it still interact the same as the new ones in the parks? I was afraid that would be a problem. I don't care about the silly jokes at home!

Can you get an older Pal Mickey reprogrammed? Ours still talks about Alien Encounter.

I got told that taking them to the parks (each park) will reprogram them.

Yes, it interact the same.

since the new ones can carry more information - they may give their owners more details????

you have to carry it a certain way to get it to reprogram....I don't remember.

We were told the older ones couldn't receive the updates about newer attractions like Soarin' (different technology sending out the updates?), but could receive all other updates.

the new one is wearing a tux!

i got the old one via the outlet for $13.99 and i thought he was cool. my ds(3) had little interest but we had my sister's kids with us (16,14,10) and they loved him!

Ok, well I confess to being an oversized child - I bought the original and then just had to have the new one since he came with tux and if you are a DVC member you could get a cute DVC shirt for him. He plays some different games and says more silly things than the original.

The thing has some sort of receiving device in the nose, if you carry him facing forward he supposed to update but I have found that he needs to be in just the right place at some attractions. The new one did not seem as good at recognizing that it was inside an attraction and it needed to be quiet.
