Pal Mickey?

OK, I guess I must be living in a closet, because this is the first I have ever heard of Pal Mickey. Is this something new. Last time I was at Disney was 8/02. From reading some of these threads I kinda have and idea of what it is. My question is, can you buy this in any of the stores in Disney or is it one particular store? And, is it an item that is hard to get, meaning do they sell out of them quickly?

This is the first I hear of them too and will definately be purchasing one for our upcoming trip in June. From what I have read you can purchase them at any resort and at each park. They need to be activated and the CM selling it to you will do that on the spot.

We love ours and you can rent for $8 a day to try out.If you decide to keep him your rental fee will be applied to purchase price,if I remember right he was around $60.00 and worth every penny in our opinion.

I LOVE my Pal Mickey. I've had him for 2 years!!

Yes you can get him at any of the larger gift shops in the parks and at the resort gift shops. He doesn't "sell out" quickly. He is everywhere!! It's probably best to rent him for a day first to see if you like him. So folks complain that he is a pain in the neck, but I love him to pieces. The corny jokes are a bit overwhelming but the information he provides is priceless!!

The CM who sells you Pal Mickey won't actually activate him. They just put in the batteries and show you how he works. He is "activated" as you enter the turnstiles at each park. Be sure to have his nose pointed outward (away from your body) because his antennea is located in his nose. He comes with a belt clip and he vibrates when he has something to tell you. We have found wearing him clipped at your waist isn't the best idea. He is sometimes hard to hear because of the park noise, but he will repeat the message if you squeeze his hand.

We usually fight on who gets to carry him around! Mkae a plan as to how this will work with your family before you rent or purchase.

I bought DH one when we were there a couple of weeks ago, he wanted one in Oct., but didn't get it. Pal Mickey really is cool. When we were at EPCOT he told us when it was a good time to start finding a place to view Illuminations, and when we were at MK, he said "I hear the line isn't very long for Buzz Lightyear right now". Of course, it was Easter Week, and the wait was 30 minutes, which was too long for us, 2 adults.

This was really funny. We bought him at MGM, then walked over to EPCOT and after a while DH said, "Why does he keep giggling? It's cute, but this is getting annoying!" Well, he hadn't read the directions, when he giggles, you are suppose to squeeze his hand or his belly, it means he has something to say! He also vibrates when he has something to say.

It costs exactly $60, tax included. Worth it to us, we love him!

The CM <I>does</I> "activate" him. After the batteries are initially installed and Pal Mickey is purchased, the CM hooks him up to a device that downloads the "program" which enables him to respond properly to the various sensors placed around the parks. Prior to that all he can do is tell jokes and random out-of-context info. But yes, when he enters the turnstiles and you have him facing forward, that is how he knows which park he is in, and the current day's updated info is received.

You can play trivia games with him and he will tell you corny but funny jokes.Instrructions that come with him will explain how to use Pal Mickey when you get him home.
