Pal Mickey???

The #1 complaint with Pal is that you can't hear him. They should give him a volume control, with louder settings, and a place to plug in earphones.

My daughter and her cousin got theirs on a trip last thanksgiving. It was so crowded, that it was hard to hear mickey. .

The trick to this is all in the "listening technique."

I "wear" our Pal up near my shirt collar.
Then, when he "wiggles and giggles" to tell me something, I just lift
him up a bit, right to my ear (like a telephone) and can hear him perfectly.

If more than one person wants to hear what he just said, he will repeat the same
message 4-5 times just be re-squeezing his hand.

He is designed to speak only as loudly as to be safe to not be too disturbing to other guests who might be near you.

Also, if you take Pal out of the (very loud) park environments, you will be surprised at how loudly he IS speaking.
The public areas at WDW can often be so (constantly and consistently) loud, that you are not aware how much of a "din" you normally hear.

Pal Mickey can provide you with information that even the most established Disney historians might not know about. A lot of the information he provides is very interesting.

One downside is that he can't be updated the next time you visit WDW - you'll have to buy a new one or have potentially outdated information. For instance, if Toy Story Mania isn't open when you visit the first time, he won't provide you any information about it because he doesn't have any. When you visit the next year, even if Toy Story Mania is open, he still won't have any information about it because he wasn't originally programmed with it.

With that being said, it is up to you to decide if you think he's a good deal or not. Yes, he does provide some great information, and yes, he is fun, but is it really worth $70 for something that might be outdated the next time you return to the parks?

Actually, you can go to the emporium and have them "reprogram" PalMickey with new info. They just stick a pen-like device up to his nose and push a button. It takes like 60 seconds and he has all the old stuff, plus the new stuff that new PalMics hav:thumbsup2 e!!!!

But I had mine updated!!!!

He CAN be "re-booted."
(I had to have that done to mine when he was new.)
They do it by placing Pal's NOSE up next to a small computer and using an infrared interface to
activate his internal microprocessor.

But its just like what you do when you re-boot your computer.
You don't get new software, you just reset everything to the proper operating condition.
He's a complex little guy.
