Pal Mickey - Old vs New Question

OK, I heard there was a difference with the Pal Mickeys at the parks (old ones are skinnier than the new ones). Does anyone have a picture of what they look like? ie does someone who knows theirs is old and someone who knows theirs is new have the ability to send me a snapshot?

Also, other than physically, are there any internal differences to the Pal Mickeys? Will they say the same type stuff?

I got my PM shortly after they came out. So they are coming out with a newer and better version? I wonder if they will let you trade your old one in toward purchase of a new one? Anyone know, or is it too soon for that sort of information to be out there?

I dont know the specifics yet either. The report I saw was that they were coming out with additional features and updating the activities , jokes etc.

Ooooh, I am definitely interested in hearing an updated answer to this question. When we were in WOD in DTD in June, an Disney executive was asking us about our Pal Mickey experience. After reporting that we loved him, he said that their would be an accessory line of merchandise coming out soon. He couldn't say how soon, but he did mention, that there would be a rain poncho for PM along with other clothing. Of course I have always heard, that there would be other Pal characters life Goofy and maybe even Donald and Minnie. But that was just a rumor.

If there is an newer updated version, I might just have to buy a new one, and give my older one to my MIL for our upcoming Dec trip

Now what am I to do! I was going to buy a Pal Mickey on my upcoming trip, but with this new information, I think I have to wait until spring. Bummer! I think I'll rent one on this trip to tide me over.

How do you get one to test out, is it luck of the draw?

I have a question. How do the Mickey's know what park you are in and what time it is? Could you be in Magic Kingdom and have it say something about Illuminations? How does it know when parades start? I heard that it says things like "See that scary old building up ahead?" for the Haunted Mansion. Does he say it when you pull up to your own house or when your near Cinderella Castle? This all leads to the final question. Does Mickey use a GPS system?

Jon. PM is reset everytime you enter a new park. You hold it facing the entrance and turn it off momentarily and then turn it back on and it will reset. As to the comments, there are transmitters near the attractions and PM is a receiver. As you near an attraction your PM will pick up the transmission and play it for you. You will get the same message everytime you pass the same transmitter, unless you have turned your PM off.

When we were in Disney in September we bought a PM. we asked the CMs, if we buy this and come back in January will he still tell us the same info or will it change. They all responded that everytime you walk into a park he is uploaded with new information, so he wont tell you the same thing twice or tell the same jokes. So, what I'm getting at is, is this true? Why would they make a newer PM if the old one will tell different things???
