I remember a post alittle while ago about paint. This summer we're going to do my living room, kitchen and family room. I have a ton of swatches from Ralph Lauren & Martha Stewart. Ralph has some awesome colors!!:) My rooms are open from one to another, so they will all be the same color. I'm looking for a warm, soft khaki/caramel color. I have about 10 I like!!

So I am wondering what paints you have used and how you liked them. I doubt I'll get RL paint, just using the swatches to find a color. If you have a color you have used and just fell in love with, please pass it on!
The plan is to pick out 3-4 samples and go get small cans. Then I thought I'd put some of each on my walls. I figured that would be the best way to tell, without wasting a gallon. I learned from my bedroom, frist one was too peachy. Second color was the light khaki I was looking for. Thank goodness the store took my first two gallons back!

Has anyone done the River Rock from RL on their walls? If so what did you think? Was it hard? I thought about that from a chairail to the floor in a breezway.

Thanks for any tips you wish to share!
:) ;)

I always use Benjamin Moore paints. Always. I have asthma and it is the only one I can safely use. I also find it is the best quality.

Before we moved in DH painted this house with Pratt and Lambert as I was not over here. It has been up for 6 years and held up well. We used "Safari" which is a tanish color and is very good background.

If you have several colors you like how about painting different walls different colors? One darker wall with the others a lighter shade can be really dramatic.

I saw the river rock paint used on "Room by Room" yesterday. It looked pretty easy. They applied first coat then brushed on the second coat in cross hatching with a brush. It dries shiney so be aware.

Ohhh...don't know if I would like shiney!:( I'll have to make sure I test that first. I was on the Benjamin Moore site this morning. I seen a color on Oprah yesterday...I liked. Didn't see it on there. We have a store about 20 min. I planning on checking that out.;)

I'm not a guy as you can see by my user name but since I do all the painting in our house I thought I would answer. We have used Benjamin Moore satin throughout most of the house and loved it. I recently did DD room using the Lowe's brand since it got the highest rating from Consumer Reports and really like the results. Lowe's matched a color from another brand that I really liked and did a great job. I would recommend a low sheen washable satin on the walls and ceiling and a higher sheen on doors and trim.

I love satin paint. I once got a semi-gloss by mistake....argh!!! Yuck!:( Learned that lesson quickly.

I checked up on the river rock...I was so bummed it was shiny. They put a sealer on it. The flyer from Home Depot doesn't say anything about doing that. They said it was to wash off easier. So maybe it just an option. Let's hope!

I painted once and DH said he would do it again for me!! hahaha I took that to mean I didn't do a very good job! So from then on I'm the gopher for him!;) I do paint the doors, but that's it. He hasn't redone any of those on me yet!;)

I'm a paint snob, as I've posted on other painting threads.

As for using RL paints, they are made by Sherwin Williams, and are not even top of the line SW paints. SW is cheaper than RL.

Benjamin Moore and Pratt & Lambert are excellent paints. I also like MAB, and the newest one that I tried (last night, as a matter of fact) was by Coronado.

Any of these brands will color match to the color of your liking. Remember, too, if you have a color from a pillow, stuffed animal, pair of pants, whatever... they can color match everything, as long as the color is large enough for the eye on the machine to register it. You don't have to limit yourself to just what the paint companies think you will like.

Happy gophering! (My DH is a very good drink and pizza getter when I'm painting.)

Have fun Wendy.. .it was my thread on Ralph Lauren Paint that you were refering too.. I must admit I changed my mind from using the suede and river rock paints.... but I still have the swatches up on the wall. I like the RL colors the best out of anybody elses... Cheyenne rock is my favorite..
Have not begun painting yet as dh is away for now..

RUDisney.. gave good info.. as did others. I did watch a show on how to do the Suede painting.. It took time, but had a lovely outcome.

Best wishes,
Joan

Thanks guys! I love reading everyones comments...it really fun to toss around all these ideas.:D

another vote for Sherwin Williams...HOWEVER...I did find a Behr color that I fell in love with: FLAGSTAFF, it's a great warm khaki/canvas color. I've done my living room, hallway, and the top 1/4 of my dining room in it....of course it's one of "my colors" and makes me look good, so that is probably why I like it so much.
I've also had pretty good luck with Glidden paints.

Is the search down? I tried to search for the other painting post, just got a error message.:(
