Is there a certain type of paint you should use for painting pumpkins? We want them to be water proof, but don't want to spend a fortune. It is for a youth group 'fall' day at my church.

Thanks for posting the question, I was just wondering the same thing yesterday. DS has to paint one for his Scout troops fall festival. Can't wait to hear the replies for the crafty ones ones on the board.

What I've learned the hard way ...

DON't use children's "gel" paint ... it flakes off once dry.

DON'T use children's washable paint ... if it rains it washes off.

DH uses the little containers of "pumpkin paint," but if you're painting more than a pumpkin or two it's bound to be cheaper to buy larger bottles (1 oz?) of craft paint ...

Tempera paint - it flakes off. My DH used spray model paint and it worked just fine.

Have fun!
