I am painting DD room but never painted before. She has different color markers on her walls and Mr. Clean and some Goo stuff is not taking it off. How do you paint over it without it showing through? Its going to be a Princess Pink. Walls are currently white.

did you try mr. clean magic eraser on it? It has never failed me yet and i've had some that I've tried everything on before I found the magic eraser.

Otherwise the only thing I could think of would be to get a small container of Killz paint. It covers anything and everything and is white, then paint over the killz.

ok not a big problem,, you will need to put at least 2 coats of oil based stain blocking primer ( i recommend kilz brand) you can get the second coat tinted slightly pink to help the paint cover, the kilz is hard to clean up after so get throw away brushes and roller covers, then use a better brush and roller for top coat. the oil based primer wont affect which top coat u use, latex or oil will work. the kilz also works good for water spots, crayon, etc.

hope you have fun:)

I second the base coat with KILZ. When we did a deep burgundy we used a gray primer.

I would Kilz, then basecoat tinted with proper color for pink. Then paint with the pink.

When you use a tinted basecoat it really, really makes the colors be "true", deep & beautiful.

Can I just use the Kilz on the problem spot or do I have to do the whole wall?

spot the problems first, then coat the whoile wall with second, other wise it'll give finish coat an uneven look.

I used alcohol first, then if that didn't work I used 409, and if it didn't work I made a solution of TSP (trisodium phosphate) with warm water to get the stains out (well, I used this solution to clean all the walls, but made a stronger batch for trouble spots).

If none of them worked then I used Kilz.

I went to Home Depot and is using the Disney paint. Its something with a B. Before I remembered about the markers the guy said i only need one coat of Paint. he said i won't need anything before i paint or after I paint. Now I need to know what I need to buy. Help. I am getting the Satin paint or maybe SemiGloss.

buy a gallon of kilz ang a extra brush and roller cover, then take it from start,, btw,, pink over white wont often cover on the first coat sorry,, another home depot myth i'm afraid. btw i am a profesional painter and remodelor so i speak from experience.

Whats a roller cover? So I need 2 coats of the Pink Paint? Anything else besides the paint and Kilz and Brushes.

I just painted DD's room Princess Pink in eggshell from The Home Depot. You'll definitely need 2 coats. If the room hasn't been painted in a long time you might want to think about doing a coat of primer 1st. Oh, and the roller cover is the thing that goes on the paint roller. I found the foam ones to be the easiest. Home Depot should have a painting kit that includes a paint tray, roller & cover plus a few brushes or you can buy everything seperately. Have fun and good luck.

We like the Sherwin Williams Pro Block Oil Based Primer. You can get in in odorless but it still smells a little.

I wouldn't spot prime. We have had much better luck with priming the whole wall or room of the room we are painting.

Make sure you open some windows while you are priming.

Good luck! :sunny:

Oh my Gosh. I am high from the fumes. Primer has some STRONg fumes. I feel ill. Hard to breath. Horrible feeling. How long till the smell goes away? Its a lttle room and we had the door closed and window open. Going to sleep hope to feel better in the morning.
