painting front door to match shutters?

We just got a new roof, siding, and shutters. We replaced our white shutters with burgundy shutters. Should be paint our front door to match the shutters? (We have to paint the door a different color because the color it is now does not match at all.) The house is stone front with tan siding...

A red door usually looks nice and is a classic color for a front door. Should look good with your shutters.

A red door is also a sign of good luck and prosperity. My front and back doors are red.

I would do red. I love a red front door. I have a yellow house with green shutters and I want DH to paint the front door red.

Thanks for the replies! Ok, that's what I was thinking too... I'm not so good with all of this decorating business... I drove up to the house, and it was quite a shock to see the new shutters up! I know I picked them out - but seeing them up is a different story (plus DH isn't sure what he thinks of them so he is putting some doubt in my mind , but everyone else tells me they look great....)

I just did that, only with hunter green. Our house is white so I took down all the shutters this summer and spray painted them green. Then I painted the front door the same color, did all the trim a bright white, then replaced the hardware with bright brass and added a brass kickplate. I love how it looks!!

I have brass numbers on the door - I like the idea of a brass kickplate...

The one thing that DH was not sure about is the fact that the garage doors are white and the shutters and then the front door will be burgundy.... before the shutters and garage doors were both white and only the door was a color... (I said the garage doors are supposed to stay white - they are of course not going to be burgundy!!!)

There is a decorative surround (for lack of a better way of describing it) around the front door that will still be white that off sets/counter balances the white I think....

Funny, just heard my wife on the phone with painter. He is coming over Saturday morning to paint the front door. Red.

That's what we have....the front door, the shutters and the garage door are all the same color.

You don't necessarily have to do it that way. A dark blue door would look nice with burgandy shutters.

My shutters are wedgewood blue as is my front door. (I have grey siding). I say paint the door to match the shutters, it will look wonderful.

Whenever I don't know what to do with our home I drive around a few neighborhoods until I see something I like then copy it. If you're not sure try to find a few homes with burgundy shutters and see what sort of combination you like.

You're right! That's what we did when we were picking out our siding and roofing...and the shutters in the first place!!!

Our door matches our shutters (all dark green). Our house has cedar siding.
