Has anyone painted there baseboards a dark color, such as Chocolate Brown? I saw this on HGTV, & I am thinking about doing it. Just wondering if anyone did it, & hated it. Also what color would you paint your ceiling, a light tan? I just thought with a dark crown molding, the white ceiling would stick out like a sore thumb.

I think it would be great depending on the color of your walls. If there are at all dark, it would really close in your room. I would definately use a soft beige or off white on the ceiling.

If you do it, post pictures!

I will do that. My wall color at the moment is a gold, but I was thinking of painting them a neutral color. I really wanted to do this in my DD's room. I really love pink & choc brown together. Maybe I will start there & see how it turns out. My poor husband can not figure out why I want to paint already, we just built this house a year & a half ago. You just can not help that they keep coming out with great ideas :goodvibes .

My neighbor painted her son's room with a khaki color on the walls and a soft grey-black on all of the moldings. The room really looks great. Even though the molding is dark, it has a very soft look.

That sounds interesting too. My DS has black furniture in his room, so that might be my next project.

We did. I didn't hate it, but it did make the room feel smaller. And took three coats of paint to cover down the road. I'll never do it again.

I would suggest that for the pink you keep it a very light pink. The bolder the color the more closed in it will look. Bold paint will also make the chocolate brown appear harsh. I would not keep the gold with the brown baseboards. The colors tend to meld in your mind when they are next to each other. You will end up with a mustard feeling. A very pale yellow or soft beige would look great. JMHO!

If you want to make a room look larger, paint the woodwork the same color as the walls.

Even if it is a dark color? My DH is just so neutral, he does not like to think outside of the box :goodvibes

We are building a new house and when picking out paint colors- the painter said that is very trendy right to do your baseboards and trim in a darker color. Kind like a reverse two-tone. I love the color combinations of chocolate brown and light pink, I also love chocolate brown and a teal blue (the best way I can describe it is the color of Restoration Hardware's bags and boxes). If you decide to do it would you please post pictures, I would love to see the finished project.

I love both of those colors too. I was thinking of doing my DS's room in those colors. I will post pic's, but it may take me some time to complete this project. My painter has been busy, so as soon as I get him I will post the pic's. I think this is to big of a job for me to tackle. I would probably end up with paint all over the ceiling.

I painted the baseboards in DS's room RED!! Now take into consideration it is a Buzz room, definately not something you would wanna do in your living room or anything!! I love it though.....you can see the baseboards in this picture.

That is a fabulous room! I love it, did you do the mural, or is it a sticker? So cute, I wish my DS still loved buzz :guilty:

I actually painted the Buzz myself. I used a prjector to put the picture on the wall, and basically traced and colored it. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself!!

Yes it did, you did a wonderful job. A friend of mine did the same thing with a projector to do a castle.
