Painting A Steel Door ?

I have a problem. My friend once took our front door and removed all the trim,then painted it to look like wood. Well years later the paint is chipping where the trim was tacked on. I would like to fill the dents and chips then re paint. Our local hardware store said theres nothing to use to fill a steel door. HELP

I know nothing about this, but wouldn't Bondo (the stuff you use to fill dents in cars work? Try an auto supply store and see what they think.
