Let me preface this by saying we're booked in a Cat. 9, Deck 2, and I'm very pleased by the cabin we have; HOWEVER...;)

If it is at all possible to upgrade at the port for an additional fee, we'd like to try that. We are a family of 4. DH and I decided that we'd upgrade for no more than around $500 for a verandah room. Right now on the Disney website, they are only showing availability for 4 in Cat. 4 & 5 (they have 8's, but that would only put us on a higher deck). We're planning on arriving at the port when it opens.

What do you think of our plan? Is $500 about right, or are we out of our minds? I know it totally depends on availability, but let's say for arguments sake these categories are still available the morning we sail. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky!

Hi. We are also booked on deck 2, cat 9 cabin. At first we were going to do the delux verandah room. Changing to the porthole room was about a $1000 difference on the web site. I think if you can get the upgrade for $500 that it would be worth it. The problem will be if it is available! I've read in the passporter that upgrades are not that common at the port because they often sail full. Are you going during off-season? I would like to upgrade also if I have saved enough $$$$ by the time our final payment is due without having to cancel our other plans! That was the big factor for me. We wanted to do some fun things like the dolphin swim and some dives... Those things cost bucks. I hope you get the upgrade you want. If you don't, have a great cruise no matter what!::yes:: ::yes::

We'll be sailing the week after Thanksgiving on the 11/27 Magic. My countdown makes me happier each day!

When cabins are available for upgrade at the port they tend to be less expensive than they would be on the website. It never hurts to ask and it also helps to be there very early because many people have the same idea about upgrading at the port. If there are no upgrades available they will have a sign posted on the counter at the terminal that will say something like...ship is full, no upgrades available!

denise, DH and I had an 11 on our -919 Wonder cruise, and it would have $500 or so to go to a cat 6......that was for a 4 day cruise...sine you already have an outside cabin, it will help you, as it is always to go from an outside to an outside. :teeth:

We were upgraded for free from category 9 to category 6.
Travel agent told me that would have cost me $1500 if I had had to pay for it. Not sure if they mark down the price at the port IF an upgrade is available.
There is apparently no pattern as to who gets upgraded for free, other than it appears that if they have empty cabins, they try to make sure they are in the least expensive categories.
