Paid port upgrade when OGT?

I know, I know the OGT reservations say no changes.

My husband and I booked the April 12th 7 Night Western Caribbean on the Magic only 2 1/2 weeks out in the OGT category. Last night (20 hours after booking) we decided we wanted to splurge for a veranda, so I called Disney with credit card in hand to pay the extra $1,500 (OGT for 7 night was only $2,200). Disney agent chuckled and said sorry. I've never known Disney to ever refuse money. On this cruise there are many veranda, outside and inside cabins open...there are even concierge openings!

Any chance of a paid port upgrade if I arrive super early?

*GT bookings are typically only available for a limited time. If you called back after the VGT rates were pulled, then they are no longer available (if they were offering VGT as well as the OGT). DCL uses those rates to fill the space up to the level they want them to be filled at any given time. Not all available verandahs will be offered during a VGT rate time.

I've read that it's possible to upgrade (paid) at the port, if there is availability. One note, I believe that you will pay the difference from the lowest OGT rate to the (lower) port upgrade rate for the category you want.

Second note - what's your PAT? If you arrive too early, you may not be able to enter the terminal.

Nope, the VGT and OGT are still available for this cruise date. I was trying to pay prior to check-in for the rate offered for the non discounted veranda room.

Yes, is it possible to upgrade an OGT at port. If you haven't done so already, try to get the earliest PAT. The terminal opens at 10:30am, if you have a later PAT you may or may not be allowed entrance at terminal opening (probably not an issue, but there is potential to be denied entrance early).

Enjoy your cruise!

They won't let you make any changes now because of the OGT rate. But yes, if there are rooms available when you check in, you can upgrade at the port. As the PP said, they will price it from the lowest OGT category to the upgrade category. I did this with a VGT booking on our Pacific Coast cruise. We were assigned a 7A but upgraded to a 4a at the port.

Thanks, another question (sorry)

Will both my husband and I need to be there to check in and try and snag the upgrade or can I check in without him?

There is a thread on here that explains upgrades. I believe you pay the difference from the cat you are in to the one you want. When I have asked about upgrading they pulled out a chart and told me what it would cost to upgrade from the cat I was in to the cat I wanted. They never looked at my reservation or asked me if I booked a GT rate.
