Paid off my trip yesterday and it cost me HUGELY extra...

Not only did I hit the highest exchange rate in the recent past because I've been gambling the odds and lost - big time (I hate it when that happens) but the trip cost an extra $2800

Because I've been home with the flu I've spent WAY too much time on the net with the net loss mega bucks and net gain of an upgrade to AKL from POR. So, not only would have saved 5 cents on the dollar if I'd paid at the right time, but I would have also saved an additional $2800.

All kidding aside, I am choked about losing out on the dollar but totally pumped about AKL

I don't understand how you are out 2800? If you lost 5 cents on the dollar that is 50 dollars per thousand so how much could your trip have cost??? 5000dollars is 250.00 so even if you have a 10,000dollar trip that is only 500.00.
How do you figure 2800?

I'm guessing the $2800 is the exchange plus the POR to AKL upgrade. The OP is really saying that if they had paid in full earlier they would not have done the upgrade and caught a better exchange rate.

wow.... How long are you going for?
I contemplated upgrading from PORFQ to WL or AKL also but have been too afraid to call and see what the extra cost would be.!!
Jumping!! over 2 grand is alot ...... I guess I have to stay with a moderate. I can't complain as 10 nights is nice but one of these days I will go for less nights and upgrade to deluxe.

Yes, it is a lot. And honestly, if I hadn't been home with the flu this week I know I would paid off POR today and been very happy with it. This is however our 20th Anniversary trip (albeit six months early but we like winter holidays) and likely our last WDW for a long time (kids are getting older, DS is 15) and last eim we spent a lot of time at the resorts and figure this time we will as well. I'm doing a really good of justifying it here aren't I

We are going to 14 days which is long time = higher cost to upgrade. Maybe cheaper when you are there. What you may want to do, which we would have done if we could is do a split stay between a POFQ and AKL. The reason we couldn't do it is because we have free dining and we would have lost it. We did a split stay last time and it was seamless, they transport you suitcases etc just a matter of a quick pack and unpack.

The $2800 was only to a poolview room - no savannah, no bunk beds - could not justify a penny more. We did the pool upgrade which was only $200 as we have a balcony and the standard rooms overlook the parking lot.

Whatever you do you'll have a fab holiday!
