Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

Reading through this busy thread led me to think about planning a trip to Western Europe in 2020. Just got off talking to my brother who has traveled fairly extensively there during college and for work and personal since then. He gave me a lot to research with more to follow. I think this will turn out well for me.

Probably focus on London and Paris during a 10-12 trip (with day trips outside London to see the countryside) or the same amount of time in Italy, focusing on Rome and Venice. We will avoid the summer travel prices since we aren’t tied to summer vacations. I want to spend enough time in each place, so we will limit the trip to two major cities per trip and hopefully do the second trip the following year.
Get your Rick Steves book for wherever you plan on visiting in Europe. We've done 4 of his tours and his books are invaluable!

This last posts makes more sense to me. This is a tweeking of the current system. I've been expecting something like this to take place. It isn't a major overhaul and I don't see this as doom and gloom. Obviously we still need to see the final details and pricing. At this point I feel like I will like the changes, but won't know for sure until it's announced.

It sounds like these "extra" FP's will be sold in packages. I feel like if you were going for a week and could by a pkg that guaranteed a FP for a 1/2 dozen of the headliners an overwhelming majority would jump on that.

If the overwhelming majority jump on it, there's nothing left for the included fast passes (which would be to Disney's delight). There will be a whole lot of people that won't want to pay for fast passes. When they can't ride anything unless they click the "purchase a fast pass for this ride here" button or wait standby for 240 minutes, they're going to get ticked and jaded pretty quickly. You think people complain about nickel and diming now? Wait until every semi-popular ride is a not so small micro-transaction.

I never considered that Disney would go the way of EA.

I seldom get angry at Disney but if reriding is limited I’d be furious. For medical/health reasons I’m unable to go on most of the biggies - think FoP, EE, ToT, RnR, star tours, space mtn, BTMRR, 7DMT, test track, SDD. I suspect ditto for the new Star Wars. And yet I can still manage splash mtn and consider any trip to be a success if I can get that in 5 or 6 times. I’ve had people tell me it’s not fair to reride because I’m “clogging” up the splash line, even as they never seem to understand that it’s a wash because, conversely, I’m never clogging up the line for those other rides. So what now? I pay extra for the privilege of reriding splash or PotC or haunted mansion even though there’s more than a dozen premium rides I can’t physically do?
I think re-riding would be limited on the big ones not the lesser attractions such as Small World, etc.

Has this always been an option on the WDW tix website? " We stay on-site/book a package, so I am not sure. Is it new and related to this?

Buy a 1-Day, 1-Park Ticket with 3 Preselected FastPass+ Experiences Today!"

This has been offered since the summer...

I would assume if they went this route they may allow re-rides sometimes for the big rides (such as when the park has low demand). Well I’m hoping so or my days of riding Toy Story Mania 4-6 times in a row close to park closing is over.

They may not increase the number of FP's available. They would just make a certain amount available for purchase. This would probably make some of these available to people who would normally have not chance at them. Martin said they will play with the ratio's. He also said they are wanting to limit people getting multiple FP's for the same ride on the same day. I read that as they are taking some of the FP's away from the park commandos who have mastered the system and giving them to others.

Sorry, I'm not seeing the down side at this point with the info available to me.

The downside for me is that I would be considered one of these "park commandos".

I'm cautiously optimistic as it does sound better than it did the other day. I kind of lost my mind about it. :)

Makes sense.

We don't hit the parks until afternoon. All our FP's are for later in the day. We've never even tried to get a 4th FP, assuming they would all be gone anyway because of the time of day. FP's are usually planned around an ADR so we rarely make changes. So most of the things that are issues for you wouldn't be for us. The ability to have 5 or 6 FP's pre-booked would be a huge plus for us. Of course with everything the cost will factor in.

Makes sense - we mix it up in terms of park arrival since we have to please both early birds and night owls, so we do late afternoon arrivals too. Actually, the CL FPs worked fairly well when I had the regular ones in the morning in MK where there was a lot of availability, but had the set ones in HS in the evening, plus getting around the tiers, so I can see what you're saying about having them all lined up for the evening. But I will say, we find a lot of availability for additional FPs in the afternoon/evenings - people are adjusting their plans all the time. We're a party of 4 so not very big, and we will split up sometimes depending upon what pops up!

Maybe just maybe...they were expecting a big rush to book the bizzilion rooms still available in Sept and are having 2nd thoughts about throwing this "rumour" into the mix..
This! I'm sure they were all set to go with some announcements, but as they realize there is still lots of availability, they may be waiting or rethinking to start with something more palatable.
