This afternoon I was cleaning my Lab's ears (he's notorious for getting ear infections!) and I noticed he had what appeared to be a boil between two of his toes. Not sure if it's something to worry about but thought I would ask your opinion. Of course I will call our vet in the morning but I'm one to worry about my fur babies until they can get in.

I'm not sure what you mean by boil, but I definitely wouldn't worry about anything on the skin. Of course, lumps on older pets are always more worrisome than on young. I would only go to the e.r. for a skin problem if it were open full-thickness through the skin, spreading (by the hour), or causing fever, depression, or severe pain.
