pagers 2 kids questions

Ok my 2 grandkids are going one is 4 so she will have a pager the other is 11
has been before he had a pager the last time . their dad my son is also going .. can we get 2 pagers 1 for each child? i know 11 can sign them selves out which leads me to my next question
does he just leave do they ask him where he's going? how do you keep in touch?
do 11 year old's walk the ship? he is a responsable 11 year old but he is still only 11

I would also be interested in the answer to this question. We have a 14 year old who will be going to the Stack (teen club) we want him to be able to page us if necessary, do they give out pagers from the Stack?

My son is also 11 and my daughter is 5. They gave us one pager for both of them. Since my son could check himself in and out, we found it more convenient to let him take one of our two-way radios. Every time he transitioned from one place on the ship to another he had to contact us via the radio and let us know what he was doing. It also allowed us to contact him and tell him if we wanted him to meet us somewhere. I was a little nervous about it at first, but it was a great experience for him. He was very responsible and he really loved having the freedom to do what he wanted.

Children 3-12 get one pager per family. If two cousins sail with their parents in different cabins, each set of parents will have a beeper (one for each kid/parent duo).

Teens do not get pagers.

Kids who have sign out privleges are just that--they can sign themselves in and out of the lab without any parental contact. YOU can set any rules you'd like for your child, but it is up to the child to follow them, not up to the staff to enforce them. For instance, the first time I allowed her to sign herself out, DD had to go straight to the cabin--she was to be either in the lab or the cabin unless she had my specific permission to take herself elsewhere. The child can ask the staff in the lab to page you and tell you to meet them at the cabin, pool, or whatever. Usually this is no problem, but if the staff is busy it might not get done. At 11, the parent can determine whether to allow the child to sign himself in and out or not. If you allow him to sign out, yes, he can roam the ship at will. Enforcement of your rules will become your responsibility.

A good way to keep in touch is to put a stack of post-it notes in your cabin. Tell him to leave you a note as to where he is going. If he goes elsewhere, he has to return to the cabin and leave another note. At 14, DD and I still use this system. It doesn't have to be a big note--pool, movie, etc. is all it needs to say.

This is sort of off topic, but relating to pagers...

On our June cruise our pager accidentally went "swimming" with DH in the adult pool on our at sea day.

We took it to the lab to get a new one, and were informed we would be charged 150.00 for killing the pager. (its 250 if you lose it). We had it show up on our stateroom charge when we left the ship. Well our credit card bill came the other day with the 150 refunded to us. I guess after it dried out it worked for them.

So a big THANKS to DCL for being honest and refunding us our money. And a word to the wise to check your pockets before you go swimming. LOL

also be aware that you can decline to allow your child sign out privlidges. my daughter will be 11 but i do not care for her to be alone (just as i would not allow her to be alone walking around a hotel). also, for those of you with realy small sprouts (flounder's nursery age)-even if you don't plan on using flounders you can request a wrist band at the kids club to correspond with your older childs pager. we did this when our little guy was a toddler just in case he managed to slip off on us-we were told that in this way any staff member (or kind passenger) could have him immediatly identified and us immediatly contacted.
