On the thread about Pre-Trip Purchases, someone mentioned packing outfits in ZipLock bags. I have no idea about this. Are you guys packing children's outfits in them, or adults? What's the purpose? :listen:

I remember that thread. I believe the purpose was to pack one child's outfit for the day in each bag and mark it with a Sharpie dispicting which child and day to wear. I think it's a great idea. :thumbsup2

I thought of doing this that way each child can get up in the morning, grab her own bag and dress herself. No fighting over who wears what on what day, etc. Seems practical. :thumbsup2

When I went on the Disney cruise, I packed my evening wear in Ziploc bags. You can pack anything you want in the Ziplocs. My main purpose was to have the bags. You never know when you'll need a Ziploc for storage. I never travel without them. Some people will put their kids' underclothes in them so all they have to do is hand off one bag to the kids without searching through things. Other people (like my mother-in-law) will put her daily jewelry into a small one. And putting your toothpaste and other toiletries that can leak into one will help protect your clothes if something spills.

Thanks for you replies! I wish my outfits could fit into those bags. That sounds like a great idea!

I am the Ziploc queen! I put together my daughters outfits (right down to the socks) for each day in a bag. When we are stumbling around early in the morning, I toss her a bag and she is ready in no time. This eliminates searching and arguing. I use the empty bags for storing "trinkets & trash", loose change, wet swimsuits, etc.

I love ziploc bags! Don't have little ones at home anymore, but still use them to pack many things for my trip. Anything that might spill (lotions, shampoo...) goes in a zippy. Things I want to keep together and easily reached (extra memory cards and batteries...) goes in a zippy. I even take empty bags with me to keep things in on the trip, like all my receipts and park maps!

Love Ziploc Bags!!!

Ziploc packing is the only way to go when you have kids! I packed everything in that bag - outfit, underwear, socks even dd's hair accessories! No more fumbling around or arguing with kids about what matches. Its so easy even DH can help getting the kids ready in the morning! We like to be at the parks at opening and this tip helped us soooo much.

Actually been doing it for years. Mostly in the Army. It keeps things organized and dry. You way also want to consider packing things like wallets and cameras in plastic bags when you carry them around the park. Will keep things dry on water rides and during the occasional rain storm. They take up just a little room, weigh nothing and can really come in handy. Also, if you take a lot of ibuprofen (I do for a bad knee) look at getting the metal match containers to store them in. Just take the rubber part out of the top and they keep pills nice and dry. Another army trick. Put them in carry on though, cause they set off the alarms in airport security. You can file this response under "too much information"..... Enjoy your trip.

I use them cosmetics and toiletries and also shoes. I also pack spare ones for damp bathing suits and the like, just in case they aren't dry when we leave to come home.

Same here! Don't put outfits in them, but use them for everything else: handful of dryer sheets, quarters, slippy stuff, wet bathingsuits for the plane trip home, all our prescription meds, etc.

I was thinkin' 'bout writing a book - Ziplocks R Us!

1) Yep.
2) We use Zip-lock (or other brand) every trip.
3) I even use them on BUSINESS trips.
4) Rolling the air out makes more room in the suitcase.

5) Small (sandwich size)
. . . toiletries so they don't ruin clothes if spilled
. . . shaving accessories so they are kept together
. . . temporary storage for wallet-change-keys-watch during airport security
. . . laundry soap "tablets" (not powder) when we want to do some washing
. . . miscellaneous - cufflinks, tie tacks, nail clippers, ballpoint pen, etc
6) Large (two gallon size)
. . . dirty underwear to keep it separate and not smelling up other clothes
. . . clean underwear squashed without air for more room while packing
. . . souvenirs to keep them from rolling around suitcase
. . . wet clothes such as bathing suits to keep other clothes dry

7) When kids were smaller (and now for grandkids)
. . . put each day's clothes in ewach bag, so they dress themselves
. . . put their dirty laundry in them to keep smells down

I also love that they have the 2 and a half gallon bags. They are great when you need a bigger bag!!!!

Your outfits can. Target, Walmart and others sell 2.5 gallon zip lock bags. These things are huge.

However, there is a risk. After you squeze the air out you can get a lot of these bags in your suitcase. It it's a big suitcase you can easily go over the airlines 50 lb weight limit.

I use a variety of ziplocs, packing cubes & packing envelopes to pack in. I never used them to pack outfits in, for myself or my son. But I do use them to group types of clothing together, socks & unders in one, shirts in another, shorts etc....
As well as the organizational benefits, it keeps things from wrinkling, keeps airport security hands off, they just look thru the clear container with no touching, unpacking is a breeze - just throw the whole packages in drawers and perhaps best of all - helps you pack alot more in a small space. I can travel to WDW for a week or two in spring or fall with outfits for Signature Dining in a 24" carryon. Using this method, I have packed for 6 day WDW trips & 5 Day business trips in a 20" carryon.

I used an assortment of 2.5. 2 and 1 gallon, quart, sandwich and snack sized zippered plastic bags for our trip in June. I could fit teen DD's shorts and a couple of t-shirts in a gallon size ziploc bag and I put an outfits together for DH and myself (shorts and shirt) in the 2 or 2.5 gallon bags. Socks and undies were packed in gallon size bags for each of us. It made packing easy and getting dressed a breeze. I also packaged toiletries prone to leaking in plastic bags too. I carried a plastic bag filled with snacks in my backpack, had a large one on hand to put over my backpack on water rides and used one to stow the wet disposable ponchos when we weren't wearing them.

I used the ziploc bags for each outfit for the kids last year. 5 kids x 6 days is a lot of ziploc bags, but it was so worth it. My DD who is very particular about her clothes was the one who inspired me to do it. I had her help pick out her outfits as I was packing them. That way she had a hand in it and didn't fuss about her clothes each day. My DS's could care less what they wear, but it sure did help when trying to figure out what was clean/dirty. Plus, all those bags came in handy for waterproofing stuff in our backpacks for the parks. We used them for our cameras, snacks, autograph book, extra clothes, etc.

Does that include the coffee maker, Eileen? :duck: :teeth:

I do the same thing for each trip, I write the childs name and day to wear it on the bag, whole outfit including socks and undies. Makes getting dressed so easy, I just tell them which bag to grab and then the dirty stuff goes right back in it.

I also use them to put any liquids like shampoo and such in so that if they leak it only gets in the baggie.

Best invention ever!
