When you pack the clothes in the ziploc bags, do you roll them first or just place them in the bag. Once they are in the bag does in go in flat or rolled? I've never done the ziploc bag thing - usually just roll the clothes.

Thanks.

I was also thinking of using the bags for my 5 kids, to make my life a little easier, but I can't even find any of the 2 gallon bags I've read about. I've looked everywhere (Wal-Mart, Target, Publix, Kroger, Dollar General, etc) with no luck.

You put the clothes in the bag and roll the bag to get the air out...flatten it. I put them flat (take up less room). Keep checking for those 2 gallon....of all places, I found them at my local grocery store (Redner's)...kind of a "generic" brand ("Awesome" brand). Only once did I see the Ziploc brand 2 gallon size at Walmart. If anyone is desperate, PM me, I'd be happy to get you some!

I used the ziploc packing for the first time on our cruise last Thanksgiving and was pleasantly surprised that it worked great. I used it for my rayon/silk skirts...folded the skirt till it was about 5 inches wide and then rolled it...it fit perfectly into a quart size bag...actually put 3 in it and then using a straw, I sucked out the air...my version of those fancy bags from TV. I had no wrinkles at all! I also use the gallon size for unmentionables...and socks...the little things.

I've read posts that some parents use the bags as "outfit for the day" for small kids to let them dress themselves. In a gallon bag, put the entire outfit and label the bag or put in a slip of paper with the day, then the little ones can just grab the day's outfit and get ready.

I just found these bags at our Kroger. They are the Kroger brand and are on sale this week 2/ $4.00. They have 10 per box. I had to look through all of the ziplocks 3 times before I found them. Good luck.

I just put the kids outfits folded in the bags. I didn't even squish the air out. I put socks, underwear, top and shorts in one bag for each day.

We took all the clothing needed (including underwear and socks) for each day for each child, rolled it, and secured it with a rubber band. In the morniing I just had to "toss" an outfit to each child and they then dressed themselves (the first time we did this the 2 youngest were 4 and 6). It worked great and saved on the ziplocs.

:teeth: While I'm excited about trying out the Ziplocks for packing, I'm more excited about reusing them at the end of the day to put the dirty clothes back into and seal so that dirty clothes smell doesn't live in my suitcase for the return trip. And heaven forbid there be clean clothes left over...they always need to be washed again after traveling with all the dirty stuff. Who ever thought this up deserves a medal. :worship:

This is my first time trying the ziplocks for packing. Using the 2 1/2 gal. bags I have 3 pairs of jeans in one bag, 6 adult tees (3 per bag), 3 pairs shorts/bag, 2 sweatshirts/bag (forecast is for cool temps at night early next week), undies & socks in 1 gal. bags. I could have probably put more in some of the bags but I decided to try it this way. I still have lots of room left in my suitcase...yay! I'm taking a bottle of wrinkle release spray in case I need it. I'll report when I get back on how this works for me. Wish me luck!

Thank you! :)

I have the bottle wrapped tightly inside a regular plastic bag, which is placed in another plastic bag, and all of that inside a ziplock! :rotfl:
I surely don't want to open the suitcase up & find things soggy...yuck!

We have been packing in zip-locks for several years and love it! I do the outfit of the day method. I roll the clothes, put them in the bag and then throw the bag in the suitcase. It works great!

I used the ziploc method last fall when DS took his first solo trip to WDW with his school. Each bag was marked for each day. He had to wear certain T-Shirts on certain days to keep the classmates matching, so that was a big help in making sure he didn't dirty a shirt on Monday that he needed on Wednesday. In each bag I also put an envelope with the days spending money, a note with my "affection", :lovestruc (which I'm sure he hid from his friends) and a disposable camera. We are repeating this method this time, even though its a family trip. They can anticipate the days "surprises" in each bag, ie.. spending money, cameras, candy, or whatever little things I find before we leave.
If there is one thing I have learned each time we have gone.... they beg for an item in a souvenior shop, say they can't live without it, beg beg beg, you buy it, then by the next morning they have forgotten you got it, we go to another park, and WOW, they have found something else that they HAVE to have or they will die :earseek: . LOL

I've always done this with camping...never even thought to do it for WDW...IM GONNA TRY IT!!! :earboy2:
