Packing toiletries

 Ok, so apparently I am the only freak that has problems with leaking. Yes, I do take full size bottles, I guess I should re think that and go get myself some good bottles.

Kristine...you're not the only freak!! My daughter just got back from Orlando and her completely sealed (new) Oil of Olay face wipes were completely dried out and the rest of her toiletries wet because of them. Seems like the package broke open, maybe from the cargo pressure, because the package looked like it exploded! :rotfl:

She also had original bottles of things which leaked too.

Now me??? I never had a problem with anything leaking.

Can't help you with the deoderant leaking, but for the eye makeup remover this might work. Open the bottle, place a layer (or two, depending on how thick the plastic is) of plastic wrap or a plastic bag over the bottle opening, screw the lid back on tight! Looks a bit ugly, but helps to keep the lids from leaking.

Great idea! Thanks I am going to try that for sure!

Are you using Clinique Eye make-up remover? That's the only item I have ever owned that leaks in its own bottle... go figure!

Close! I use the Mary Kay kind which is pretty much the same kind of deal as the clinique. Man you think with how much you pay for this stuff they could make a leak proof bottle! :rotfl2:

I was a little worried about the guy at SFO with the giant bottle of lotion - didn't know why he would need the Costco size bottle!!! :teeth:

I heard that Certain Dry is coming out with a AM formula & My friend thought it was a soft soild-here's hoping. I always have something that leaks, but not the same thing each time excpt for Contact Solution. But I travel with big bottles that have just a little left & throw them out when we leave. More room for stuff we buy.

We are flying to WDW this year for the first time in several years. We first decided we wanted to take carry one luggage only, so we thought we'd buy toiletries when we got there. Then we decided to pack light but check our luggage, so we wouldn't have to lug it around, and pack our toiletries in a carry on tote. Now that there are restrictions in place, I think we'll go back to buying once we're there. Target and Walmart both have great "travel size" aisles, so you can buy all your toiletries for a few dollars, and toss what's left before flying home.
For vacations, I normally go 'minimalistic' and use only the essentials - perfume and other extras get left at home.

another suggestion i read somewhere on the DIS (won't help w/the leaking problem) is to put all toiletries in a small bag and check it without a DME tag... while one member of the traveling party goes to check in for DME, the other goes to the baggage carousel and retrieves just that one bag...

We leave in 3 weeks and I'm considering checking my usual carry-on bag without the DME luggage tag and retreiving it before boarding the bus. This sounds like the best alternative for me.

My stuff always leaks too. Obviously not deodorant, but shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, suntan lotion, etc. Nomatter what it doesn't fail. I've tried repackaging it, keeping it in ziplock bags, keeping it in plastic cosmetic bags (assumed to be made for that sort of thing?), Not to mention I just don't feel like cleaning up all the bags, etc after a long plane ride and while i'm on vacation. There seriously needs to be another solution to this problem because IMO it's rediculous.

tricia.
