I don't read this section of the board so forgive me if this has been posted before! I read in a magazine (and then had an "aha" moment) that when traveling with others it is a good idea to put half your clothes in their luggage and half their clothes in yours. This way if one bag gets lost both people still have outfits to wear. I can't believe I never thought of this before. I will definitely be using this tip in Sept for our whole family!

I have heard it before but I am hearing it a lot more lately. I heard it most recently while I was watching Jon & Kate plus 8.

I never had applied to me much because I don't trust airlines so much that try to carry-on everything as much as possible.

I am going to start packing on monday.. this is a great tip to use when I start. Thanks!

This is a great tip. My wife and I have experienced the value firsthand. Not on a trip to Disney, but to California. We had done the split packing, one of our bags was lost and we didn't get it till day 4 of a 7 day trip.
It made what could have been a real downer only a slight downer.

I've been doing this over the last few years. Luckily none of our luggage has gone MIA but just in case, we are covered.

not only do we split the clothing among the checked bags, but we also bring along a complete change for each of us in our carryon as well...

We always do this and I can say it saved us one time. One of DH bags got lost and thankfully I had packed a complete outfit in my bag for him. :laundy:

I started doing this a few years ago. It helps just knowing that if a suitcase gets lost you aren't totally stranded.

I'm usually the one insisting on this while everyone else is rolling their eyes.

Just came back from our Disney trip. Guess what, BIL's luggage went missing on the trip to Orlando. Had to borrow clothes and flip flops from my DH.

Return journey - one of our suitcases has gone missing! It's now been three days and it still hasn't turned up! Not a critical issue when you're returning home, but it just drives home the point - don't put all your eggs in one basket! Or in this case, don't put all your clothes in one suitcase!

Over the past few trips our family splits up our clothes between suitcases. So far they haven't lost our suitcases, only a car set...lol

It only takes losing your luggage one time...then you spread it around!
