We 4 adults 3 kids staying in a 2 bedroom villa at OKW. What are some of the things we should bring with us for a comfortable stay of 5 nights. We will be driving so we'll have room to bring stuff. We will be cooking some meals there. Breakfast every morning and lunches on a go maybe a few dinners. Any suggestions on a good place to grocery shop, besides Goodings their just too expensive.

Some folks like to bring a non-stick pan. I bring a little botle of olive oil ... it takes up less space :). Since you're driving, you will be able to pack dried goods like pasta and cereal. You should also bring your own laundry detergent.

I like to shop at the Publix on 192 or at the Super(Slow) Wal*Mart Center on 192. The Wal*Mart always has pool noodles ;).

I always bring aluminum foil, zip loc bags, a cooler (for the water parks), coffee, cereal and other munchies.

Every year at the store (Publix, Wal-Mart, where ever), he buys a new non-stick frying pan. He uses it all week at OKW, and then packs it to take home!!!

I remember every year, I shake my head at this now tradition of his - but I can't shake him of it!!! And, I have to say, it's a fun way to get our new frying pan!

We always drink a lot of bottled water, and keep a lot in the fridge. (next to the hops and barley type beverages!!)

have fun!!!
Sue

A frying pan???? Aren't there any pots and pans there? Should I bring dishwasher soap? Maybe a few storage containers? How about a blender for my frozen yummies? I remember a toaster or toaster oven in the studio we stayed in last year.
I'll pack a non-stick frying pan, we love grill cheeses.

Thank you for all the great suggestions so far. Please keep them coming. I'm making my list.

There are pots and pans supplied in the 2 bedroom units. I think some people prefer to cook with a non-stick pan. Come to think of it, it may come in handy, it is hard to get used to those electric ranges. ;) ;) We have a gas range at home. Dishwasher soap is supplied as well as papertowels and a toaster. They used to have a blender in the 2 bedrooms, but I never used it. If they don't have one now you can probably request one.

Funny, we have a non-stick pan we always take. I hear the BVC has teflon pans! Along with the regular metal spatulas. We bring enough coffee filters for the week so we don't have to buy a whole pack of them. Diana

Bring 4inch coffee filters and coffee. Bring lots of bottled water and sodas to bring to the parks. Freeze the water overnight to keep it cold during the day.
To get to the new Winn Dixie, take Community Drive (right) to East Buena Vista Drive, then take a left onto Hotel Plaza Blvd. At the end turn left (instead of heading strait into Goodings). The Winn Dixie is a mile or so on your right.
Have a great trip!

One thing to remember is to pack less clothing and pack laundry soap instead! We pack VERY light and wash a load of clothes each night so we always have fresh to wear. Breakfast foods and other cooking spices you like are a must if you plan to do much cooking. We usually do breakfasts and light meals, but occationally do a nice big meal too, if we have guests. Our stays are usually a week or longer though, so I think that makes a difference in how much you cook.

Along with the great suggestions above, we always bring salt and pepper. These are no longer supplied in the units.

There is an 8-piece cookware set. There is a toaster, hand mixer and a blender. There are all kinds of other kitchen-related items like parking knives, whisk, etc., etc. I don't see storage containers listed, but I recall seeing some last time. You might want to throw some in or bring some aluminum foil/saran wrap. Dishwasher soap and dishwashing liquid are provided. Only a start-up box of clothes washer soap is given with an additional box provided at T&T or full cleaning. Bringing/buying a non-stick pan is a personal preference. I've done this myself but it's not essential. As mentioned, word is that BCV was given non-stick pans. If they work out okay there, maybe all the DVCs will get them in the future.

FYI -- The studio has a toaster. I wish they would switch to a toaster oven.

The coffee maker in the 2 BR or 1 BR is a regular 10 cup size, so you will need the regular size filters. Studios have a 4 cup coffee maker. Diana

The units are actually fairly well supplied with the kitchen items you will need. We do bring a small(I think it's 8")non-stick frying pan, as my DH likes making the egg sandwiches for the AM better in a non-stick. We bring the frying pan, laundry soap, a stain stick laundry pre-treater,extra hangers,Starbucks coffee, coffee filters(in the 2BR, it is a regular sized coffee maker, in the studio, it is a 4 cup),disposable salt and pepper shakers(like the kind you can get in the grocery store) When we get there, we buy rolls, eggs, bacon, cheese, water,oj,snacks, beverages, butter. We tend to only do breakfats in the room...usually at lunch and dinner, we are out and about. As far as non-perishable food, since youll be driving, you could really go nuts with bringing stuff. Since you'll have the washer/dryer, pack for 1/2 the amount of days you'll actually be there(ie-if it's a 6 days trip, pack for 3 days)and do laundry in the evening...it' really quite effortless. There's a Publix on Rt. 192, kind of nearer to the OKW side of WDW. There is a new Winn Dixie near the Hotel Boulevard side of WDW.I haven't been yet, but I've been hearing good things about it on these boards. Goodings is just expensive. Tey way over price due to their location right outside the gates.

We've always had a blender at OKW. I checked when we were there last month & the blender was in the cabinet above the sink.

We always shop at Publix. We used to go to the one on 192, but this year we went to the one that is close to Gaylord Palms, on south International Drive. It's closer & there's a lot less traffic getting there. Turn left when you come out of OKW; left on Bonnet Creek; right on Buena Vista Dr; left on Victory Way; left on Osceola Pkwy; right on south International Drive. The Publix is on the left a little ways down.

In addition to the terrific suggestions so far, we always bring a king sized fitted sheet to put on the bed.

Disney, along with most hotels, uses flat sheets for the bottom sheet; I'm a restless sleeper, so by morning, I'm frequently sleeping on the bare mattress.

So we bought a fitted kingsized sheet at the local white sale (paid something like $10 for it); we made sure it was a darke green sheet, so we wouldn't forget it , and so housekeeping would know it was ours (Disney sheets are white).

Hope this helps!! My parents are at OKW as we speak, and they LOVED the fitted sheet idea.

Ginger, we just had our first trip home to a 2BR at OKW. We carried so much stuff it looked like we were headed for a refugee camp.

We carried "dry stuff" - cereal, pasta and sauces, bread, peanut butter, etc, and that wasn't too bad. We have an electric Igloo cooler which plugs into the van lighter, and had it full of sandwich meat, eggs, microwave bacon (more expensive, but it sure is handy), and some other stuff. Breakfast was the non-negotiable for us - it saved all kind of time and money (but I was the Suzy Homemaker for this trip; I let DW just sort of slum around.)

Our biggest mistake was in trying to fool with canned soft drinks and bottled water. The bulk and the weight was just so much more than I had anticipated. My deal was that I didn't want to spend so much valuable time shopping for groceries, so I wanted to do all that in advance. NEXT time, I'll buy most of our drinks when we get there ... I'll gladly trade some time spent shopping for a hernia any day.

The Winn-Dixie was just fine. I didn't see a lot of fresh produce that was all that great, but the meats were good.

Re: the non-stick pan ... the only thing I used the provided stainless steel pan for was scrambled eggs, and I carried some Pam and doused the pan pretty good. It was still a messy cleanup.

Oh, yeah - I begged some individual salt and pepper packages from Good's , because we didn't bring any and the General Store didn't have it.

I also bring spices with us. I bought a dial-a-spice from Harry and David's which has mostly italian spices in it.

Speaking of meat ... one of the best meals I cooked at OKW was a BBQ. The men-folk grilled steaks at the communal grill near the pool (I think it's a charcoal one) and the women-folk cooked up veggies and potatoes. Beer and wine was had by all but the children ;).

non stick frying pan
spices - I use tupperware midgets for this. In addition to salt and pepper I bring along steak seasoning, chives & dill...to spice up those morning eggs!
king size fitted sheet
dryer sheets
Shout and Woolite make these sheets you can toss in the washer that absorb color...so you don't have to worry about sorting colors. They work well, which cuts down on the number of loads of laundry.
We pack clothes for 4 days...regardless of how long we're staying. We do laundry every day.
Lots of water. We leave several in the freezer and take them to the parks frozen.
A portable CD player and CD's...to have music in the living room and in the car driving to/from resorts/parks. (This is during the holidays...like to play christmas CD's!)

Enjoy your trip!

You all are the greatest.

I have: cling wrap, aluminum foil, bathroom cleaner spray for the tub, laundry detergent tablets, bathroom air freshener, dryer sheets.
For food I was thinking of: Boil-in-bag rice, box mac and cheese, packets of hot choc mix, a couple of canned milks, Lipton dry soup mix, cereals, bottled salad dressing and dry snacks, tea bags, coffee, filters, sugar, bottled water and box drinks for the kids. Also storage baggies. We'll buy milk, bread, butter, bagels, lunch meats, bagged salad mix, fruits and veggies and any meats for dinner when we get there.

I need to add spices, a non-stick frying pan and turner, 1 colored king size fitted sheet to my vacation box.

So what do you all think have I got it covered.
