Packing Soda (when flying)

God forbid DBF does not have his mt. dew for a week. Has anyone ever experienced packing this? We are flying southwest so we can each check 2 bags without fee's. Last year we bought it at MCO but 10 bottles at $3 bottle when I can pack a 12 pack (if allowed)....seems like a no brainer to me

Are you staying on Disney property? If so, I would get a bus to the Boardwalk and walk to the Hess and pick it up or a bus to Downtown Disney and go across the street to the Hess and pick it up. I have never tried to pack it and be my luck I would end up with a suitcase full of empty bottles and a plane with a mt. dew floor.

As far as I know there are NO Pepsi products anywhere in Disney including the Hess gas station. However there are grocery stores that will deliver Mt. dew to the room. There are delivery threads here on the topic.

Both of those Hess locations only sell Coke products, no Mtn Dew. We went over specifically looking for Mtn Dew & found out they had none. DS made do with Mellow Yellow for the trip!

I appreciate all of your responses, although it doesn't answer my question.We have gone these suggested routes in past years, rented cars to go offsite etc. I was just looking for something quick and easy SUCH AS PACKING this year without spending $30 at the airport and lugging it on ME.

You cannot take the soda with you on the plane as carry-on. You might be able to pack it in your luggage (check your airline's rules), but (and this is a big issue) if the cans burst, your luggage and everyone's around your's will be a sticky mess.

It can be packed. But consider how airline luggage is handled. Tossed, bumped, piled up. Will the bottles or cans survive without bursting? Who knows? You could pack it inside some heavy duty contractor bags and then pad around it with extra clothes but if TSA insects the bag they may not repack it the same way. I would look into having it delivered it where you are staying.

I have seen plastic 20oz bottles burst by being dropped bottom first.

Sadly, you cannot take soda bottles/cans as carry-on because TSA won't allow it through the security check point. The limit is 3.4 oz (100 mL) containers in a 1-quart baggie per traveller.

Yes, you can pack a 12 pack of soda in checked bags. Ignore the naysayers; put some big ziploc bags around it and pad it a bit. It should make it just fine.

And then weigh your luggage. Even on SW they have weight limits and adding liquids pushes the weight up there quickly

And remember, there's a 50 pound limit. A pint (of water) weighs a pound, so figure a 12 pack weighs between 9 and 10 pounds, before padding.

I brought some Mountain Dew in my luggage last year for my teenage niece. I bought a 12 pack of bottles, divided them up, and double bagged each individual bottle. Then I put those double bags in a plastic bag, and cushioned them with all of my clothes. They traveled just fine.

I honestly don't know how anyone can drink that stuff! It tastes nasty to me!!!!

Thanks, that's a really good idea. I agree with you on the taste but it is his crack. I try to make every concession possible to make sure its there for him since he is such a sport and an indulges my WDW passion for me once a year :>

This is what we did. We wrapped the plastic bottles in shirts. this seemed to give padding and not take to much space up. But most of the time we make a grocery stop

I can only tell you about my personal experience when someone packed glass bottles in a checked bag....glass bottles of baby formula no less. Not only a sticky mess but a very disgusting stinky mess also. Several years ago we arrived late afternoon at MCO. We had two checked bags and a carryon each.
Checked bags were yellow tagged, being picked up at MCO by Disney baggage and delivered to our room. We had dinner reservations and returned to our room about 11:00 p.m. DH's bag was in the room...mine not. I called Bell Services and they said "Oh yes...we'll be right up" Yeah....well, they were....with an absolutely soaking wet, disgusting smelling bag......some other person's bag filled with formula bottles had broken on the truck and ruined EVERYONE's bag in the vicinity....NOT on the plane, mind you......but, on the truck after it was picked up at baggage claim. Believe me......I was extremely annoyed with whoever thought glass bottles would make it through airline baggage and transfer at MCO. I was one of the fortunate people, however.......only my bag was ruined (which Disney did replace the next day...they sent someone shopping for a new bag) since I learned long ago when traveling during the winter and getting damp/wet clothes from sloppy tarmacs.... for years I have packed EVERYTHING in my bag inside plastic travel bags...you know the bags you use for seasonal storage.....only the travel version...which roll all the air from them. None of my clothes were ruined or wet at all. I did have to handwash the outside of all my storage bags since they were all sticky. I felt very bad for all the poor folks who must have had everything in their bag ruined, stained and smelly. So....long story short.......please don't pack bottles or cans (which could burst from the air pressure) in a checked bag. If you can't get the soft drink you want onsite and simply must have that one type......please order it from one of the grocery services.....don't take the chance that all your stuff along with other peoples could be ruined by burst bottles or cans.

You can order Dt. Dew in cans from Garden Grocer. No bottles though. Wasn't too much more expensive than at home, maybe $2. Order bottles water or your beverage of choice. It isn't hard to get the $40 min. order. it will be delivered to your resort. No hassle or worrying about exploding bottles/cans.

Definitely agree with above poster....doesn't take much to reach the $40 minimum from Garden Grocer....a case of water, the Mountain Dew, and some quick breakfast stuff (plus you'll save money on buying breakfast) so that will compensate for the delivery charge. I can vouch for Garden Grocer....we use them for every trip.....since we're DVC members we utilize the full kitchen we have in a 1 bdrm and have breakfast in every morning, plus I usually choose to cook a few times and order all the fresh ingredients I need. Sometimes I do pack stuff in our checked bags....but only dry ingredients....maybe a box of pasta, or small premeasured plastic bags of spices I might need for a meal, premeasured amounts of rice packed in a plastic bags, ground coffee, but, never anything liquid. If there are more than the two of us traveling I sometimes do ship a box of stuff addressed to myself at whichever resort along with our check-in date. However, keep in mind if you are staying at a convention resort (GF, CR, BW, Y&BC, or CS) you will be charged a fee for any package received since any packages at those resorts are received in the convention center package rooms.
