We are flying out tomorrow for our first Disney cruise, or cruise of any kind for that matter, which departs on Saturday (7-day Western Carribean).:yay: I am beside myself with excitement, barely functional. :cloud9:

While we have done some preparation, we are doing most of our packing this evening, so I thought I'd start a single thread for the dozen or so questions I anticipate running across tonight, and hopefully if anyone is out there they can chip in and help me out (forward palnning is not always my strongest suit). It'll be like a big interactive packing exercise, sure to be fun for the entire family.

First couple questions:
1. Do I need to pack towels at all? I was hoping the ship would provide those, even for the shore excursions.
2. On a packing list I accessed from on of the pinned threads, the first item listed was the over-the-door shoe hangers, of which we have two, so I'm all set there. Second line says "don't forget the duct tape!". Why? I gotta' admit, this one has me mystified.

Hello - WOOHOO - have a blast

no you do not need to pack towels - if you need more in your room just ask for them -- if you are at the pool -just find the towels -- I think they are in the wooden boxes (at least that is what I recall from 06)

We packed duck tape and DH never used it - but I do have it on my list again this year - JUST IN CASE!!

Just in case what? I don't even understand why I might need it.

I assume Disney provides shampoo, conditioner, and soap, yes?

I guess people just use it for various reasons? maybe someone will post what they did with it..and hopefully it will be G-rated  just kidding

yes they provide shampoo and conidtioner and soap -- I love it - love it love it --- and then some nice cream too .... :) although DD hates the stuff - so I get it all :)

I have read somewhere that the duct tape comes in handy in case your zippers on your suitcase break?? There may be other reasons, but that is something I recall reading.

There is another threat on this but......

Duct tape is the universal repair material. It can:

1) Repair a ripped carryon bag
2) Repair a ripped suitcase
3) Hem pants
4) Hem a skirt
5) Ladies, if you forget a special bra for that strapless dress, it can be used to corral the tata tatas.
6) Keep closet doors from sliding in rough seas (although most closet doors have velcro on them to do that)
7) Keep curtains closed.
8) Be used to help assemble your pirate night costume.

and many more emergency uses.

i guess i go against the grain.

I have taken towels in the past. I perfer really lare towels and the ones they providde are smaller.

Duct Tape................YEAH what he said!!!!

2 Tips on Packing........

1. I make sure when i pack for the cruise that i put clothes for each person in each bag. Verses a bag for each person. This way if one of your bags is lost you still have clothes for everyone. I made sure there was a bathing suit in each bag for each person and soemthing dressy and something casual.

2. I also put all the clothes I wanted to send out for ironing all in a different suitcase so that as soon as i could they were right there for me to hand off to the room attendant to take for ironing.

THese tips did require some preplannign on my part though.....but my problemis iOVERPLAN!!!!

tvguy, you always crack me up with your posts - love them!

OP - don't forget to pack Downy wrinkle release spray - it works wonders.
Also - Word to the wise: If you have first seating put something in your carry-on that you can go to dinner in the first night if your bags don't arrive in your room in time. Speaking from experience on that one.

OK, here's another one - are personal coolers allowed or not?

I have seen tips on this board that they are a good idea to have along, esp. for excursions - but the Your Travel Booklet that Disney sent me maybe two weeks ago says pretty specifically that personal coolers may not be brought onboard. I assume this means the rules have changed since that tip was posted here, just looking for some confirmation, and wondering why they would change that rule as it would seem to come in handy.

Everything I've read on here has indicated that despite the wording on Disney's literature, it is only hard sided coolers that are not allowed. Soft-sided coolers are fine (but no ice until you get onboard).

Have fun!!:thumbsup2

Duct tape is also a great baby proofer... it can go over outlets, keep cords covered, work as a deterrent on many other things. But I am use to traveling with babies, and this is one thing we ALWAYS bring!
