So we are from Michigan ...the weather changes on a dime up here ! I am trying to pack fairly light for the 4 of us ( 2 kids..ages 6 and 2) we leave Aug 24th...do we need sweatshirts or am I just insane thinking that we might ?

You might need them for restaurants if you tend to get chilly in air conditioning, but otherwise I can guarantee you won't need them. We never bring jackets/sweatshirts/sweaters in summer. The air conditioning never seems to be very cold in restaurants, so we don't need them.

You definitely will not need them if you are going to be outside, day or night. Even if it cools down to the 80s at night, the humidity will keep you toasty!

I would bring one thin sweatshirt per person (although, I don't know if your DH is like mine, he is always hot and doesn't really even own a sweatshirt)
For the kids and yourself though, it's nice to have a nice coverup if it's chilly indoors after the 3pm rainstorm. I like something that is a hoodie, so it can kind of be a bit of a towel at the same time :)
We're going to be there the same time as you, we are at AoA on the 26th!

other than for air conditioning you will not need at WDW but you might need them as you return home. so if you have room I would bring so you have from the trip from airport to you car

We're Wisconsinites so we had the same issue. We went int April and the only time I really wanted a sweater was like a 30 minute time period very early in the morning. I found the air conditioning to be fine, and I can't imagine that you would need a sweater in August.

We are heading down next week and I always bring light sweaters or hoodies for the evenings or restaurants. I hate that transition in and out of the A/C. I feel like sometimes in the evenings (especially after it rains) it cools off enough for me to need my light sweater. I say its better to bring one to have then to be stuck buying one if you get cold.

In August? No, unless you get cold in AC, no you won't need them. It's really, REALLY hot in late August. We are talking lows in the low 70's. We have gone to WDW the last week in August for the past 4 years and will be there again this year. All we ever pack are sundresses, shorts, t-shirts, sandals, swimsuits and rain ponchos. I say pack light and if you need something (which I don't think you will), just get it there. We went in February this year and it was in the 50's the whole time and we definitely needed long pants, sweaters and jackets, but you won't need any of these in August!

We just went in June and did not need them. I was not even cold in the A/C anywhere in Disney. It was a welcome relief.

You may want to bring a light jacket for anyone who get chilly in restaurants but no, do not bring a hoodie.
