Packing List with a twist...

I'm trying to pack light this trip, as we are travelling to Mexico first, then visiting family in Florida, and then driving up to Disney where we are splitting our stay. In all, we will be gone a little over two weeks. I am thinking about sending some items down to the family so I don't have to drag everything through customs and out again, and I also will be able to make a shopping stop once we're in florida as well; but, I'm still pretty sure that I will overpack. I'm looking for some ideas on how to pack lighter. What are the really must have items? Are there smaller, multi-use items that you pack to keep you comfortable and organized? It will be me and DD (8) and DD (5). We are going in August and are used to changing our clothes in the evening so that we are refreshed for dinner. I love reading all the packing list threads- but, I need someone to help me decide what's really important. Thanks.

onebag.com is a great resource on how to pack lighter and more efficient!

One thing I discovered on my last trip was a new type of shorts. I went to REI and bought Columbia-brand "Sandy River Cargo Water Shorts." They're lightweight, moisture-wicking, and you can hand-wash them in the sink at your hotel, and they're dry by the next morning! I figure I can get by with two pairs (different colors) for my next trip and just rotate them every-other-day. They were a little on the expensive side (about $34) but so great for packing light!

You also might be able to use the same philosophy for your shirts - get some moisture-wicking running shirts and hand-wash them. They carry Champion brand running clothes at Target that are moisture-wicking. Not only are they lightweight and cool, they're easy to pack and easily washable!

I would do one carry on bag per person, and it's much easier than you think.

Agree with the PP - as far as you only need a few things, and wash them. I always do laundry at any hotel. Plus if you're stopping at the store, you can buy any extra toiletries you may need.

Two pairs of shoes, max. Wear one and pack sandals.

We've done two weeks in Hawaii with just carry-ons, and used to only travel that way. It's actually simpler than you think!

I also like sundresses that fold up to nothing.

Since you are stopping to see the family I would a little time to do laundry. We actually do a load everyday at WDW while the kids take their daily afternoon nap. With laundry done on a regular basis you only need a few mix and match items per person.
