Packing List? What did you pack for a week stay?

Hi All,

I have searched the forums and couldn't find any info on this topic, so I thought I would ask here.

So what did you pack for a week stay at Aulani? With baggage fees and all, I wanted to keep it light...just want some ideas

I was thinking about this last night. We have a one week stay coming up in April and this is the first Disney related trip I think I can get away with less bags. No fancy dinners, no formal nights... I think I can get away with a lot of swimsuits, cover ups and maybe one nicer sun dress for our Ama Ama reservation. Other than that, we plan on doing a lot of dinners in our room (villa) so I see us staying in swimsuits/coverups all day. I think my daughter will have the most clothing (as usual, haha!) because she'll need a few play clothes outfits for the kids club. We don't have plans to leave the resort, so I honestly don't see the need to pack many actual "outfits" for myself and my husband.

I plan on bringing a few food related must haves from home, and we will use them throughout our stay and then have room for a few souvenirs on the way home.

We brought 2 swimsuits each so they would be dry when needed. I brought half the bottoms we needed and did a load of laundry half way through. We had a 1BR villa. I just wrote down what we needed washed and as we wore them, I threw them in the washer until I was ready to wash. We totally could have worn some outfits twice as we swam most of the day and only needed "clothes" for a few hours. I brought a beach bag which was nice to have to put everything in when we went to the pool and beach. I also brought a couple towels, which was unnecessary!

The best thing I brought was this thing. Quite a few people stopped us and asked if we bought it there. We tested it with a piece of paper first before using it with the phone, but it worked great!

One thing we make sure to bring to Hawaii every time is our own snorkel gear. I know you can get a "length of stay" pass for the Aulani Rainbow Reef but we snorkel all over the place including the lagoons at Ko Olina.

Thank you all for your replies. I just ordered us some of those waterproof phone cases. I figure that those could come in handy. Also, we will be bringing our own snorkel and masks, but not the fins and vests bc they take up way to much room...However, my husband may change his mind at the last minute and want to bring the fins.

we never take our fins either. Truthfully, if you find you need anything Target, Walmart and Costco are just the next exit down the freeway.

I know but my husband Despises going shopping while we are on vacation for things like that...his theory is that we spend way more than we should bc we forget stuff. We then go into Target or Walmart to get it, and come out with lots of crap and spends lots of $$$$. LOL

But we have to do it every time, I mean you can't take two kids on a trip thousands of miles away from home and not forget something....

Really, I could have gotten by with my wallet, phone, and swim trunks. My 4 year old just wanted to be in the water the whole week we were there. On-site, I just walked around barefoot and trunks most of the time. I did have to put on shoes and a shirt to get coffee and an occasional meal across the street, but otherwise we just munched at the Ula cafe which was more casual and a lot less $$ than the other restaurants. The ABC store has nice inexpensive shirts and most items you would need for a week stay.

We did have a washer/dryer in the 1 br villa though.

The waterproof camera case would have been nice to have. I would have taken a lot more pictures since I was submerged most of the time.

You might want to include a hoodie or windbreaker for the kids for the evenings, especially if they are the type to chill easy. I always make mine wear them on the plane so they have an extra bit of coverage if they fall asleep.

Will be there in a week. Looked at forecast and seems like 80's during the day and 60's in the evening. Will a light sweatshirt, shorts and/or capris be comfortable for the cooler evenings? I'm sure Hawaii 60's feel warmer than Michigan 60's.

I have never really needed more than that, you might want a windbreaker if you are planning to walk down by the water for any length of time and you get chilled easily but you should be fine.

If you plan on visiting Pearl Harbor, they have a NO BAGS rule. So, since I couldn't bring my purse, I had something that would fit in my pocket to carry my ID, a credit card, and a bit of cash. (Obviously, make sure you bring an article of clothing that has a pocket for this ID holder and your cell phone.)

If you plan on visiting Pearl Harbor, they have a NO BAGS rule. So, since I couldn't bring my purse, I had something that would fit in my pocket to carry my ID, a credit card, and a bit of cash. (Obviously, make sure you bring an article of clothing that has a pocket for this ID holder and your cell phone.)

Were you bags ok in the car? I have read not to leave bags in the car, or you would come back to a broken window and your stuff gone. But I don't know if that included Pearl Harbor or not.

That applies to Pearl Harbor as well. But if you happen to bring bags there, they have a storage area and lockers for smaller bags. The cost for either option is $3.

I have been throwing items in a laundry basket that we plan to pack. Unfortunately, it looks like I already have a lot of things in there...so much for packing light. LOL My husband has decided that we need to take our own goggles, and snorkels, and then my nine year old wants to bring his fins.

I have been reading reviews this morning. It's getting so exciting since we leave in less than two weeks

We spent 2 weeks in a 1 bedroom villa (DVC) this summer. The room includes a washer & dryer so we took advantage of that by taking fewer clothes.

I took 4 pairs of shorts (2 for wear during the day, and 2 for going out in the evening), about 6 aloha shirts, and a couple of t-shirts, plus a swimsuit. I also had one pair of khaki pants that I wore to and from Hawaii, and for one dinner one night at a place that didn't allow shorts. I spent most of my days sightseeing, with perhaps an hour or so by the pool in the late afternoons after my return.

DW took a similar number of shorts and tops, a couple of sundresses and some golf clothes. She found the air conditioned restaurants to be a bit cooler than she liked so she also had a light sweater.

We brought our own snorkels and masks. We also brought fins but I only wore them once and will leave them behind the next time (I tend to just float and let the fish swim under me). I also have my own inflatable vest that takes up very little room.

Don't forget to take a hat and sunglasses!

Thanks for your information. We leave home this Wednesday and I have mine and DH's clothes packed. We packed pretty much the same as you. 4 outfits each, a set of dinner clothes, and swimsuits. The other stuff is what takes up so much room. The snorkels, masks, the kids have wet suits, and shoes. I think I will throw all that stuff in a big duffle and we will have room on the way pack for souvenirs.
