Just remember - when packing light - don't pack too light. The last few years I have been on a packing light kick. However I have now had 2-3 trips (to various places) where I have packed too light and didn't bring enough "extras". Then I'm stuck re-wearing clothes I'd sooner not re-wear (and we have no problems re-wearing clothes that are not sweaty/soiled). Or else handwashing in the hotel room sink.
Anyway - for packing light tips...I color coordinate so that the same bottoms can be worn with several tops. Also works well for "extras". I also pack by the day - pre-planning what all four of us will wear every single day of the trip. For most trips, it's one top per day with a bottom worn 2-3 times. Then pyjamas (if we are short on space, then pyjamas are gym pants and tshirts so they can double as "extras").
I will also do laundry on longer trips. Our last 12 night trip I packed for a week and did laundry halfway through.
For cooler weather trips, I pack long sleeve dryfit shirts that can be layered under our t-shirts (and are warm). Then a hoodie/fleece each. Then a lightweight, yet warm softshell jacket.
