packing light tips

Just remember - when packing light - don't pack too light. The last few years I have been on a packing light kick. However I have now had 2-3 trips (to various places) where I have packed too light and didn't bring enough "extras". Then I'm stuck re-wearing clothes I'd sooner not re-wear (and we have no problems re-wearing clothes that are not sweaty/soiled). Or else handwashing in the hotel room sink.

Anyway - for packing light tips...I color coordinate so that the same bottoms can be worn with several tops. Also works well for "extras". I also pack by the day - pre-planning what all four of us will wear every single day of the trip. For most trips, it's one top per day with a bottom worn 2-3 times. Then pyjamas (if we are short on space, then pyjamas are gym pants and tshirts so they can double as "extras").

I will also do laundry on longer trips. Our last 12 night trip I packed for a week and did laundry halfway through.

For cooler weather trips, I pack long sleeve dryfit shirts that can be layered under our t-shirts (and are warm). Then a hoodie/fleece each. Then a lightweight, yet warm softshell jacket.

I consider myself a pro at packing light. We usually go for 10 days- 3 of us- and we take 1 hard sided suitcase and 1 small bag. I start off with using packing cubes for each person and we each get our own color. I pack 5 outfits for each person and then do laundry half way through the trip on our resort day. Each outfit is laid on top of each other as such: shirt, shorts,undergarments- then rolled up and put in the packing cube. Rolling your clothes saves more room than folding.

I allow one pair of sandals that gets packed and we wear our sneakers on the plane down. We also wear our jeans, long sleeve shirt and sweatshirt for traveling since we are coming from cold PA.

One swimsuit per person and one set of jammies per person. DD is allowed one stuffed animal- usually Duffy. We use a small toiletry bag that has all of the basics in Ziploc bags. We don't take shampoo, conditioner or body wash as our DVC resort provides it. We don't take any medications in their bottles- we put them all in Ziploc bags and label them and take just enough for the trip.

That's about it! I don't bring all the extras that everyone always says to bring- like power strips, first aid kits, ponchos, etc. In 13 trips I have never needed any type of additional items then what I have packed.

My best tip is the Nike or Adidas wind suits & the dri-fit work out pants.
I always go in November/December, so it can be hot, warm, or cold, or all 3.
The wind suits & dri-fit work out pants are great for layering, they are light weight, & they are not heavy placing in a shoulder bag & carrying around the park for when the sun goes down. Also, they are waterproof, so they are great for water rides & rain showers !!!

Also, yoga pants, they are light & you can throw some thermals under them if it gets too cold.

I always take more than 1 pair of shoes, my crocs, my nike shox, etc to give my feet a change of pace each day depending on how my feet or legs are feeling.

Also, Body Glide for my feet, to keep the blisters away.

P.S.
Also, something I NEVER leave home without.
A door hanging shoe organizer.
It is great for putting all your toiletries, chargers, makeup, etc.... All in one spot so it is easy to find stuff, your countertops are not cluttered for you or the cleaning team, & it is a MUST have for our room. Just keeps it so organized & easy to find stuff !!!
