This is going to sound really paranoid, but I'm nervous putting my kids' lanyards full of pins into our suitcases because I'll be worried about someone taking them out of our luggage. We can't take them in our carryon luggage because they are pins, right? Please be gentle with your responses if you think I am crazy for worrying about this. :lovestruc

YES!! You sure can put them in your carry on! We do it all the time.. no problem at all. :)

Put em in the carryons. We've taken kids with their lanyards in their carryon bags through security many times, never had them say anything.

We keep them in the carryons as well every time. Never been questioned. You might need to trade one at the airport Disney gift shop!

You can bring them on the flight but I wouldn't worry about anyone opening your luggage up and taking your pins. they might be valuable to you but they're really not worth anything other than the few $'s each you paid for them. If you don't want to carry them on & are really worried about someone stealing them put them in a travel bag or plastic non see through bag in your luggage, not just laying on top.

I had the same concerns last trip, we went to the outlet and loaded up on pins for the kid for Christmas/Birthdays. I asked a CM and she said it was fine no problem, just couldn't have snow globes on planes, but you know sometimes CM's don't give accurate information, so I was scared to death they were gonna take my pins. Upon arriving at the airport and running (Home Alone style and in the rain) to make our plane we wisked right thru security at Sanford airport and they didn't bat an eye. We were in such a hurry stressin to make the flight I didn't even have time to think about it again until we were sitting on the plane.

Thanks for the advice. It's so silly - I know they aren't diamonds or anything, but they feel like it since my girls remember how and when they got each pin. I will have them take them in their carryons or realize that the luggage people aren't going to take them. Can you just picture a couple of big guys looking through the luggage. "Oh man, you are NOT going to believe this, but I hit the jackpot with this suitcase. I found a retired Mickey pin!!". :rotfl2:

or "dude come look its the Cinderella special edition pin I needed to complete my princess collection!" :lmao:

BTW, no offense to people who handle luggage at airports! I don't know if it happens often or not; I'm just the type of person to think about IF it's a possibility, however slim. :lovestruc

Love the princess pin comment!! :lmao:

I always have mine in my carry-on, just be aware that you may get your luggage screened because of it and give yourself an extra 15 minutes. Have a great trip!

My daughter has worn her lanyard of pins on the plane and nobody ever batted an eye. :thumbsup2

We usually take around 100 traders and everytime our luggage gets searched, because of the amount of metal.

I am going to put them in a tray by themselves because some of the TSA get a little overexcited about what is in our luggage.

I don't know what the least amount would be so that it doesn't draw attention from the TSA people but I know 100 pins will.

A few trips ago we each had a gallon bag of traders in our carry-ons. TSA stopped us. They told us next time to take the bag out of the luggage and put it in a bin. Last year we had smaller (like sandwich size) bags of pins and TSA didn't say a word.

I absolutely think pins get stolen out of checked bags - I have read threads where people have said that exact thing.

The airport folks in Orlando are familiar with the pins and don't think anything about them. It is our home airport that we have had issues. Never had an issue with wanting to carry them on, just issues going through the x-ray.

I have flown multiple times with my pin bags and my pin lanyard packed in my carryon bag and never had any problems taking them on the plane. Sometimes when going through security they would be searched and other times they would not, so it's 50/50 chance of that happening.

I too, put my pins in a clear plastic bag and put them in a bin for TSA. I've never had a problem. I'm just being proactive.

I "lost" my pin lanyard and Disney necklace and bracelet (the collector kind$$) from my luggage two years ago. They were placed into the checked bag never to be seen again.

When we traveled last month, TSA suggested that any jeweley be placed in a ziplock bag and taken out of the carry-on during inspection. On the trip home, I put the bag with the pin lanyard into the tub with my video camera and bag of liquids.

We are packing ours in our carry on in case the airline LOSES our luggage and DD won't have them to trade the first day! Never even thought of it as a security risk!
Loved the comment from PirateGirl about the security Dude finding the missing pin to his collection! :lmao:
