Packing for January

We're planning a trip in January. Any advice on what to pack? Also, any tips on what to pack for a trip with toddlers? We'll be staying in a 1br villa. Thanks

I'd love some advice too! It looks like we'll be going in early Feb., and I'm guessing we'll need a little of everything: t-shirts and shorts, capris, jeans, sweats, jackets... I'm already a serious over-packer, so this could be trouble!

I packed half winter stuff an half tshirts and lightweight clothing we used all I packed including the hats and gloves and winter jackets which we had worn from home. Only used our winter coats at night time watchin Illuminations.

Hooded sweatshirts that zipped up the front was our best friends we could wear them zipped or open or actually take them off an tie around waist and didn't have to pack or carry them in park.

The pools are all heated DD swam in Jan DH and I didn't. Water might be warm but it's gettin out of pool that was gonna kill us.

A couple of afternoons we was a little warm in tshirt an jeans but not long enough to justify puttin on shorts.

I would recommend what PP said. Bring some shorts & t-shirts, and also pants and sweatshirts. Layers for your toddler will be perfect. When we went last year we were in shorts and t-shirts for the first two days and pants and jackets for the rest of the trip. It also rained while we were there, so don't forget your umbrella.

We went last January and the kids were comfy in jeans and short or long sleeved tees most days. We did need a light jacket or sweatshirt a couple of times, but it was warm enough to swim a few days too. If you have a washer/dryer in your villa, you can pack a few of each type of thing. We did a small load of laundry almost every night. My kids had packed their favorites, so they wore the same thing just about every day! As for tips for toddlers, we brought normal breakfast food so the kids could eat at their own pace while the adults were getting ready. If you are still in the diaper/pull-up stage I would buy them ahead, they are available but not very economical at Disney. I would scope out the 15 day forecast from accuweather.com before you go to see if any unusual weather (record cold or high) is expected. The temperature can vary dramatically in central Florida at that time of year.

We went once in January and mabey it was extra cold that year but we ended up wearing our winter coats, mittens and jeans most of the trip (weather in the mid 30s and 40s). By the end of the trip, it was about 70 degrees though. Pack a bit of everything!

I agree with everyone else. You'll probably need a little of everything. We've gone the past two Januarys, two weeks each time, and used everything from winter coats to sundresses. A few nights got into the 40s, a few days it got into the mid-80s. Layering will be your friend. The majority of the time I wear jeans or capris and a t-shirt with a light jacket for morning and evening. I try to bring a few cardigans and hoodies. I pack one or two pairs of shorts, but really they would be the first things I'd ditch if I was trying to lighten my suitcase. I'd rather have a few tank tops instead. I always bring several pair of those stretchy gloves, usually around $1 at Target. Great for night parades and Wishes. I bring a fleecy hat for each of the kids too.

For my toddler, I brought a polar fleece coat and the aforementioned hat and gloves. I used all three a few times on both trips. I bring a couple cheap fleece blankets too. They are good for the stroller. My daughter mainly wore the same kind of clothes I did.

The weather is a huge unknown in January. For our December trip I dressed DS in pants, a long-sleeve T with a short-sleeve T over it, a fleece jacket, and hat in the morning (with a pair of shorts in the diaper bag if it was supposed to get hot). As the day went on, we would adjust the layers as needed down and then back up. It worked really well for us. We always arrived at park opening when it was quite cold, but it warmed up a good bit in the afternoons.
I wore pants every day, but packed a combination of short and long-sleeve T-shirts and also adjusted layers. (I did pack a pair of shorts in case it got really warm, but never pulled them out.) We had also packed heavy winter coats in case it got REALLY cold, but didn't those either.

Just check the weather (weather.com or something) a week before you go, and you will have a good idea of what to pack clothes-wise. We brought light jackets, but DD2 was the only one that wore one. We wore shorts a few of the days.
