Packing food -- airline restrictions?

I was wondering what sorts of food we can pack on the airplane, either in carry on or checked bags. I know things like granola bars are allowed. How about fruit to go (fruit leather), apples, oranges, juice boxes, milk boxes (those little milk drinks that don't need to be refrigerated right away), canned fruit? Any restrictions I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Any liquid (juice boxes, milk, yogurt etc) has to be within the usual carryon restrictions. The only exception that I know of is for infant formula. You can pack what you like in your checked bags. I'd put them inside a large ziplock in case of spillage, though.

If it's an international flight, I wouldn't pack fresh fruit or vegetables. There are a lot of customs restrictions on those.

I have a 5 yr old son with dietary restrictions and uses a special milk. We fly every year and I am always afraid of a delay or any other problem at the airport. I always bring two 32oz closed cartons of the milk and explain at security. I have never had a problem at all. Sometimes they take it and "scan it' (for lack of a better word) and sometimes not.
