Packing cameras and aerosols

Can anyone remind me where you should pack cameras and film. Should film not be loaded until arrival and if so where should film be packed?

Also aerosols eg deodorants and hairspray, where should it go.

I always put cameras and film in hand luggage. Don't know about digital media though.

Last August aerosols were considered a security risk and had to go in suitcases when I flew with Virgin.

PS I was also surprised that my daughter's pencil sharpener had to go in the suitcase too - but I suppose even a small blade is a blade.

I always carry my camera in hand luggage. Digital media is fine and is not damaged by airport x-rays.

Aerosols can go in suitcases. We found the best way last year was not to bother taking any aerosols and toiletries and buying it in Wal-Mart on arrival. It saved lots of packing space and is a lot cheaper to buy in the US.

We will be taking a digital camera and the children will have normal film loading APS cameras. In this case where should film be kept re X-Ray etc. And is it better to take the camera through with no film inside.

It makes no difference where you keep your film - suitcases and hand luggage are subject to the same type of x-ray, which is harmless to film.

Keep one camera loaded - you may want to take photos at the airport.

I thought aerosoles could not go into suitcases in case they explode under the pressure of the hold.To be fair it was about 1972 when I was told that but I have always put any I have in my hand luggage ever since.

aerosols can go anyway - the hold is pressurised just the same as the rest of the plane.

If you ever watch Airport, they quite often show the vet team getting animals out of the hold, so it has to be pretty reasonable down there if they let animals ride in the hold.
