We are looking to save some money by eating bfast in the room. I have a few things on order from Garden Grocer but I also have 3 unopened boxes of energy bars that i would like to bring. Can these fly with us? Should they be checked or brought through security as carry-on? I have seen contradictory things online (imagine that), so I thought this would be the place to go for the definitive answer!

One year we took a whole weeks worth on NutriSystem meals in one of our checked bags. We did seal all of them in heavy duty zip lock bags just to be safe.

There is no problem with taking these through security in a carry-on, although there is a small chance they will be looked at if they look particularly dense on x-ray. You can always take them out of your bag and put them in the bin if you want to avoid having your carry-on searched.

Same here. We bought packages of Erin Baker's Breakfast Cookies last year. No problems in either the check-in luggage nor the carry-on (we had them in both).

We do this all of the time. For example, we just returned from Florida. We shopped and bought breakfast items/drinks/etc. for our hotel room. It figures...we bought way too much. We just double ziplock bagged (gallon) (yes I also bought ziploc bags)the items and put them in our checked luggage. We did have free luggage due to our credit card so it didn't cost us any money to bring back the extra water/cereal/arnold palmer/wine. We did pack a bag of chips and pretzels in our carry on and it was a good thing because there was no time to eat during our flights.

We just did that when we went to Mexico. I had them in my carry-on bag. The people that brought fertizler in their carry-on bags got way more attention than we did :)

I will be taking Cliff bars and trail mix packs in my carry on this Friday. I will also, be using these for breakfast or park snacks.

We routinely pack granola bars and snacks in our checked bags.

Depending on when our flight leaves, we will sometimes put them in our carry ons. We've never had any problems. :)
