Has anyone packed bottled water, juice boxes or something simiilar in their bag. I am looking to save some money and would like to pack a bag of just snacks and drinks for the week. Anyone done this????

I'm thinking they may break....

Thanks

I had mandarin oranges with juice in individual plastic serving cups in my luggage last year and they made it through with no damage. I never thought about them exploding in my suitcase, maybe this year I will put them in my DH's suitcase.

I brought a bunch of bottled water last trip in Sept 05. I had one suitcase designated as 'food/water' that way if anything did leak it wouldn't ruin all our clothes. I packed a couple bottles in gallon size ziplock bags and then also put them inside a soft sided cooler inside the suitcase. So I tried taking precautions. Everything made it through checked-baggage with no issues. :goodvibes

I will be doing so again this Sept when we leave. I would advise taking some precautions. Also, one more tip is to WATCH THE WEIGHT. Most airlines have (I think) a 40 or 50 lb limit on the bags. Weigh it before you leave or it will backfire!

Good luck.

I brought a case of water. I put the bottles in ziplock bags. It worked great.

on the budget board they have discussed having a case of bottled water sent to your hotel on the day of your arrival - i believe it was from Staples - I think it's 6.00 a case; cheaper than disney and easier than getting it there on your own.

We just returned. I had a whole box of juice boxes left over. The cheapskate that I am did not want to throw them away. I put them in several Supermarket bags and tied a knot. Then placed them in a spare duffle bag that I packed. No problems here. I would not recommend packing anything with carbonation though. The pressure may make the cans explode.

I understand that people pack water and juice to save money, but the Hess stations on property, Walmart or Target sell cheaper bottled water. I was under the impression that you can't pack food or drinks in luggage anyway, so I always wonder about this when I see these posts.

Also, as someone mentioned, be careful of weight. Our family only consists of myself, DH and DD, but packing water is a big waste of luggage space for us, so we just purchase at parks during the day and Hess or grocery store for night, but I have to imagine that for all of you who do, it must weigh a ton and take up lots of space - less room for souvieniers, so that wouldn't work for us - LOL!

Good luck in packing your water, Tiger

We returned about two weeks ago and we also packed a "snacks/drinks" bag. We did not pack water (we have filtered water bottles so refilling it from tap was fine) but we did pack about 20-25 of juice boxes in gallon zip lock bags and they made through fine. I was nervous about traveling with them, which is why we had a designated bag for them. Everything worked out! Hav ea great trip!

We did this for our 2000 trip. We packed a pilots case full of waters, a box of wine, and snacks. We had everything wrapped up quite well, in case of leakage. We called it our "concierge on wheels." We checked the bag for the flight, and it was so nice to have all of our snacks from home in the room. The only thing we could not pack was our milk! I never thought about weighing the bag, but that certainly seeems like a good idea. Another benefit was that when we returned, we had an extra suitcase for souvineirs!

Water will probably be fine, but DON'T pack anything carbonated. I made the mistake and they exploded in my luggage during the flight.

I've packed water and my beloved Diet Coke in my luggage several times and never had a problem. Then I have an empty suitcase for any souvenirs I accumulate in WDW! It works out great!!

If you think you will need more groceries, get water and everything else needed from Garden Grocer...it will be delivered right to your resort. Just did this last week at it worked well. If you don't need that many groceries, I would ship it down to your resort or check out the deal at Staples.

i used a large heavy duffel bag and it fit a case of water (24 bottles) in the case just perfectly, I checked it with my luggage and we did magic your way so it arrived in our room with our other luggage, and i had an empty duffel bag to take home souvineers! It saved us a bundle on water!

We've bought water from Staples twice and had it shipped directly to the hotel. It's under $6 for a 24 pack and if you sign up for their rewards program, shipping is free.

Buying beverages ahead of time and taking them with me will be cheaper than buying from one of the online grocers. I'm also considering shipping a box of goodies ahead of time - again cost, though small, could be an issue, as every dollar counts.

What's your secret for packing the Diet Coke? Did you take bottles or cans? Do you check your luggage or carry on?

I have two six packs of the 8oz cans of store brand orange soda that DH likes. They stack nicely in a small collapsible cooler bag, just like a regular 6 pack. I'll probably put each in a Ziploc just in case.

I also want to get a bit of water. I was thinking of getting some of the 8 or 10oz bottles to keep the weight down. I can always have them refilled, plus I was able to purchase a Brita sports bottle that I can fill with ice/water at Pop Century or in the parks.

We travel both domestic and international very often. We are always packing food and drinks in checked bags. Never have any problems. I agree with previous post about putting liquids in ziploc bag. Better to be safe than sorry :cool1:

I pack one suitcase with bottled water, juice boxes, snacks and breakfast items. As long as it doesn't go over the weight capacity. Every airline is different but they will charge if you go over. I believe it is 50 lbs. Never had a problem with anything exploding if that is what you are wondering.

I called my airline which is Southwest they told me if I was going to take coke to take it on with me... she said not to check it.. she said the ladies even serve coke cans on the plane.
