packing alcohol

Last time I was at Disney was for New Year's a few yrs ago. I had bought 2 very over priced 12pks from the store at the resort where I was staying (ASMo). Due to a sudden change of plans, I did not get the time I was expecting to "pre-game" before we hit Pleasure Island for New Year's Eve (RIP PI). So we fly out the 2nd, and I had 10 Buds left. I'd be damned if I was gonna waste ANY MORE money. So, what I did was I put 2 each into a clean sock that I hadn't used yet and packed them that way. I only had 1 casualty from the decompression.

It didn't matter much to me. Everything needed to be washed when I got home anyways. And drank my 9 remaining Buds in my ASMo frozen daqueri souvenoir caraffe.

I wanted to bump this and thank everyone for their replies. I had been wondering about packing a bottle in our checked luggage.

I'll probably bring a bottle of TGIF's pina colada which comes in a plastic bottle (but I'll still wrap it in some kind of plastic in case if it were to break and spill)

Is there anything I need to say about this to the SouthWest baggage guys (at the sidewalk where they take the check-in luggage) when we get to the airport? (Philly)

Sure, mention it to them so they know what to look for in your bag!!! Just kidding, but truly??? No need to alert anyone to anything potentially fragile in your checked bag. Either pack it correctly or deal with the mess whan you open the bag. Baggage handlers really don't give a fig what's in there...they just toss 'em around. I was sitting on the plane watching them do this..man, it was horrifying. Especially for the woman seated behind me...she watched as her bag sat on the tarmac, waiting to be loaded. She watched as they finished loading, with her bag still sitting there, unattended to. She told the FA, who said it would be fine. Ah, no....as we watched them pulling the ramp away from the plane, and there sat the bag still unattended to. You should have seen the FA grab a gate agent at that point!!! Nope, no care is taken in baggage handling.

I have packed wine (the smaller 2-3 serving box things) and liquor in the plastic travel bottles that they sell at the liquor store. I put them in ziplock in the center of checked luggage with clothes wrapped around it. No problems!

I have used rum runners flasks to pack alcohol without any problems. I do also pack them inside not one, but two ziploc bags.

what is the purpose of these? Is it to get them ON the ship or to bring home some goodies when you return? Or is it simply to keep things safe?????

other than DCL most cruiselines only allow 1 bottle of wine/champagne per adult guest. The breakeven point for many voyages is said to be the liquor sales, yet i feel i do my fair share in gambling & excursions.:rolleyes1on the longer cruises, the liquor bill alone can cause the vapors@ checkout.

i prefer topshelf vodka and while i do buy a drink or 2 each day, just count on the rumrunner to stretch my travel budget, despite my DH rolling his eyes. I usually don't go thru the contents of the large one during a 7 night cruise.

Ive read of those who do pack liquor they buy in port in the bags as the breakage/leakage is nill.

i use the waterproof aquapacs for my gear (camera/ipod/cell) in the parks @ disney especially when we don't have access to the in-room safe yet. When swimming i just attach to swimsuit & away we go no hassle watching our gear.
