Packing advice for formula?

I need some packing advice for our upcoming Disney trip.

I need to pack formula for our day trips to the parks. I was initially thinking that it would be best to put the correct amount of formula in a zip lock baggie, then when I needed it, just poor it in a bottle and add bottled water; however, when I tried it the other day the formula would not sift out of the baggie and kept getting stuck in the ridges of the ziplock.

So... I thought maybe I'd try using the sandwich baggies and tying them shut. Has anyone used these for formula powder before? :confused3

Does anyone have any other tips? I'd put it in the bottle, but if the bottle was not completely dried, it will stick to it and partially dissolve.

I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks! :goodvibes

When my son was on formula (we were using the powder stuff by then) my sister bought me the best gift ever - a formular container thingy - it was a round plastic container with 3 seperate comparments and the cover had a spout-type opening.

You measure the amount of formula you need into each compartment and then when you need to use the formula just move the post on the cover over one of the compartments and pour into the bottle - it's very easy.

She got it at Babies R Us - look in the are where they have bottles and feeding things - it was a generic brand - blue and yellow on the packaging.

Also, when we were buy the big cans of Similac - there was a time when they inlcuded "travel stick" There were sticks of pre-measured formula - I think each stick made a 4oz bottle. They are also handy and easy to use.

I tried the plastic bag as well and it just doesn't work. It's very messy. The only thing I can think of with the plastic bag is to have all the formula rest in a corner of the bag and then snip the corner to make a small hole and let the formula "flow" thru the hole into the bottle - much like a patry bag.

But I would look for that container at Babies R Us - it's inexpensive and I used it all the time.

Definitely buy formula containers - they have them EVERYWHERE now. I just saw some at Walmart this morning. I used to use them all the time - even when we weren't going out at bottle-time - I was just easier to measure out a bunch of formula at one time, and bottles were ready in a flash.

Don't worry, you have lots of options.

As another poster mentioned, you can buy a formula container with the three compartments.

I have also purchased specially designed bags that you can put the formula in. Probably very similar to your sandwich bag experiment, except these bags are sort of funnel-shaped so that the formula powder is easy to pour out of the bag and into the bottle.

Some brands of formula have single-serve foil packets of powder. When my oldest two were babies, they drank Enfamil and I loved those single-serve packets of powder.

Another option, although more expensive, is to bring the ready-to-feed nursette bottles to the parks. Then you don't have to worry about measuring, mixing, or anything. We did this with my youngest and it was so easy.

I'd just weaned DD from breastmilk, but we weren't ready to go to cow's milk just yet. So, we brought the single serve formula packets. They probably cost more (it was my first time even buying formula, so I don't know for sure) but the convenience of having them at Disneyworld is worth it. I'd just drop a few enough for the day in the backpack each morning. They were super easy.

You can also use a brand of disposable nurser -- which means no bottles to clean and only one bottle frame to carry. Pre-fill the liner baggies with powder formula and then when you're ready to use it, put the liner into the frame and add the water.
