Packing a loaf of bread

We've stayed at CBR numerous times but I've never noticed bread, this time it's POFQ which we haven't stayed at since it was Dixie Landings, so I can pack a loaf if I need to with the awesome ideas & I'll be good to go & if they do have bread there, I'll know where to go when I need more LOL.

POFQ did have bread the last time I was there. Not sure if they do this time.

Put it in a Tupperware container and then you have a sturdy box to bring fragile items home in.

I'm chuckling as I read this because last year I packed a loaf of bread in a shoe box for my trip with my 4 year old son. I knew we'd split most meals & wanted to have an alternative if he didn't like where his gma & I were eating or was hungry before lunch time. I mentioned on this board that I used the jelly packets from Pop food court & got flamed by several people who said I was stealing & shouldn't travel to Disney if I couldn't afford to buy items from the food court. I'm glad to see you're packing your own peanut butter & honey;)

You know what's funny, we have the free dining plan but my son hates almost everything on the menu at Disney. It's too much for him, the food is too big & he just wants a simple sandwich most days & a bowl of cereal for breakfast so thank goodness it's free because if we had to pay for it for him it would be a total waste of money since the only thing he eats are the fries. He hates the chicken fingers, pizza, hamburgers, etc. He ends up eating the dessert only (we always grab the grapes or apple slices) & the milk (won't drink pop either). I wish Disney would just put simple things on their menu for kids. Not every kid wants to eat greasy food all the time so I'm stuck bringing food for him.

If you go to the resort food court and take a really good look around you will find a ton of simple things. I think the majority of us go in and grab the first thing we see. The last time I was there I ordered some pasta that they had to make and it took about 15 minutes. I wandered around and ended up seeing all sorts of items that I had not noticed before. Also, really look at what other people are buying....again you will notice things you either didn't see or things you would have not thought to combine. You should be able to find things for your son that he will like. I also found that the staff would combine just about anything that I asked for when getting an entree.

my son is a simple & picky eater. he won't eat pasta with sauce, takes the cheese off cheese pizza, won't eat crust, & if it's too big, he won't touch the whole thing. It's really a pain. This kid won't touch anything at McDonalds or any other fast food chain. So if the staff would make him a peanut butter & honey sandwich everywhere we went & cut the crust off on only white bread, we'd be ok. He had a meltdown at Epcot because I ordered him a hamburger & fries & he didn't want the hamburger so he refused to touch any of it because it came with fries & proceeded to freak out so bad we had to leave the restaurant. For a snack, he's happy with a granola bar, & he's 6. He really could care less about food. He only wants to eat the same things we have at home. He'll eat PC chicken fingers but if we go out & order him chicken fingers & they're not the same, he won't touch them. He'd rather go hungry. He wanted wings when we went out somewhere & when we got them the sauce was different (obviously) & he refused to eat the wings. It's at hte point where we don't take him out to eat. It's much easier to put a sandwich in a baggie & feed him on the go than stop to eat somewhere.

I would recommend that you pack his sandwich in a small rectangular container so it doesn't get squished while touring the parks. Here in the US, both Ziplock and Glad make them. Tupperware also has a nice "sandwich keeper". I still use one for my 7th grader!

FWIW, I packed a loaf of bread, a jar of PB and some jam one year when we didn't have a car. I used a plastic shoe box and it worked just fine. Make sure to pack the PB & honey in your checked luggage because they are both considered "liquids" by the TSA.

I actually have a sandwich container to use. We are bringing our baby as well (well she'll be 15 months when we go) so I'll be bringing lots of snacks into the parks with us in a collapseable cooler, so everything will go into our checked luggage. I usually pack my son a sandwich for the plane too.

Nice!

Any of the DVC resorts have a store with groceries... you can buy packages of bagels, loafs of bread, microwavable meals, bottles of wine :worship: jugs of milk and juice there.

If you go downtown Disney take a bus to SSR - anyone can go to the store.

I was at PO Riverside this past Sept/Oct. Darn! I knew there were some pictures I meant to take around the resort!
Their general store "Fultons" had a section by the change rooms where they sold grocery type items. I'm sure the other Moderate resorts would have a similar selection. (I did check out stores at resorts with DVC, eg AK, BC, CR & BW, and they had additional items, as well as a frozen food section).

Here are some of the things I noticed at POR's store:
--water & skim milk in 1 & 2 litre containers (and I'm pretty sure whole milk & chocolate)
-- hard liquor (rye, gin, that kind of thing... don't drink it, so didn't pay much attention)
--bottles of beer & koolers "by the each" (beer: $5.95 each!!!!:scared1:)
--bags of bagels, loaves of sliced bread
--cereals, jams, peanut butter.
--donuts (?krispy kreme?)
--big bags of chips, tortilla chipp. Bottles of Salsa, containers of Dip.
--First Aid supplies, Pharmacy Supplies.

Fultons doesn't sell fruit or veggies, but fruitcups, fresh fruit & veggie sticks are sold and also avail as DDP snack options at the food courts.

I didn't check out Hess, but plan to this Fall (there's one at DTD across from Parking lots & another at entrance to Boardwalk Villas/Inn parking lot entrance).

I did check out Goodings and Winn Dixie:
I walked (I like to explore walk, so 30mins walk is nothing) from DTD along Hotel Blvd, and checked out Goodings, then I walked North at that intersection up to Winn Dixie & got groceries then walked back to DTD,
The price difference was noticeable, and of course the selection was way more extensive. .... A bag of apples, 1/4 watermelon, and bunch of bananas cost about $10 at Winn Dixie... vs $1 apiece at the Food Court. And I think 6-8 Bud Lite cost me $8 there!)

AND! They don't sell Becel or Celeb in Florida... that's the number one thing I brought with me.... well, that and my Red Rose Tea!:surfweb:

AND! FYI, you can't buy chewing gum at WDW!
