Packing a loaf of bread

Since as far as I know you can't buy a loaf of bread at Disney, I was hoping to pack one, but can't think of something to put it in so it won't get crushed. All my son wanted to eat the last time we were down there was a peanut butter & honey sandwich for lunch. The only thing I could find close to that was a peanut butter & jam sandwich on a bun but he won't eat a bun & he doesn't really like jam (I know he's a picky kid).

Anyone have an idea of what to put it in in a suitcase?

Try freezing the bread, put it in a shoe box and wrap some of your clothes around it. That might insulate it a bit to keep it from thawing. The box should help prevent squishing once it has thawed.

I suggest packing it in a bread keeper. And on the way home fill it with clothes or whatever.

Tupperware and RubberMaid used to make one, but they both might be retired. You could try Lock and Lock--they make a great product, but slow shipping from the web store.

Good luck,

Cathy

I think the shoe box would probably get squished, unless it was a really sturdy one. I may have to check it out & see how much pressure it can take.

I never thought of the Trading Post at Ft Wilderness, we've been there before for the Hoop Dee Doo & it's kind of a PITA to get there but if I need bread I'll make the trek, but I think I'll try to take my own with me first.

All the resorts have a small food section with bread, bagels, muffins etc. I wouldn't bother packing one from home.

We've stayed at Disney quite a few times & to buy 2 slices of bread becomes quite expensive every day so it's more economical to bring a loaf so I can make a sandwich for him in the park.

hi! i just happened to see your post from the main forum and wanted to say that we have taken bread in our suitcase before and it's arrived safe and sound. one time we packed it in a sturdy cardboard box...and another time we packed it in a tupperware-type pitcher, (taken so we could make lemondade when we were in our room.) i'll admit that i'm cheap...and with a family of 6, we try to take anything we will need instead of buying it at resort.
oh, we didn't freeze it either...just packed it and took it.

They sell loaves of bread in the stores along with a small selection of other grocery items (not in the bakery area that you are thinking of).

Certainly you can bring one from home but for the $3 to buy one I wouldn't bother.

I've done this before with tea biscuits and it worked out fine....this would also be what I would do with a loaf of bread.

You can get plastic shoe boxes from the dollar store....but really I think any box will do.

2 slices are 80 cents in the food court.

You can get full loaves of bread from most of the gift shops....especially the ones that also have a DVC resort attached.

They sell loaves of bread with the food, not in the food court. In addition, there is a Hess gas station across from the Boardwalk.

We've stayed at CBR & never noticed loaves of bread in the gift shop? Hmmm, maybe I won't have to pack a loaf & can just bring the peanut butter & honey!

We're stayed at POFQ this time, hopefully I'll find the bread!

They definitely have a loaf of bread. Each store has a selection of small groceries and a cooler with booze/milk etc I wouldn't take PB or honey either. I would just take extras from the food court condiment area when you are having breakfast :)

Anyplace that has DVC villas will have a small grocery store. The boardwalk has a small general store that sells bread and the Hess station across from the Boardwalk sells bread too and as someone mentioned they have a small store at Ft Wilderness. I wouldn't try to pack bread. It will get squished. Another option is to get a grocery delivery to your room.

order from Garden grocer.com they will deliver your food to the resort for you then you don't have to pack anything....
Or I think it was 65 cents to buy 2 pieces of bread at the resort.

I don't think Garden grocer would deliver just a loaf of bread, that's all I need & do you think I could find honey in the condiments the last time I was there, nope! & you need a lot of peanut butter packets to make a sandwich so it would be easier to just bring a small container of each. Getting to the Boardwalk, FW or the Hess gas station without a car is kind of a pain but if they have it in the gift shop, I'll just get bread there. Before we leave I'll call the resort to make sure they still carry it. I still though can't think of where the bread would be at CBR? I can picture the chips & pop + toiletries, but can't remember seeing bread.

If the Hess stations have what you need, there's a Hess station right across the street from DTD. Hop on the bus and then just walk over.

super easy to pack a loaf of bread in a shoe box - that's what I would do just to make life easier instead of running all over the place looking for bread.

Alternatively, any larger tupperware container will do too - there's no rule that bread has to stay in the wrapper, is there? For work, I bring slices of bread quite frequently and just pop them in a tupperware container - if you don't have any of the above, just store the slices in any tupperware sandwich boxes that you have. A cereal box would also do the trick. Anything really with some kind of shape to it will prevent it from getting squished.

I have seen bread and peanut butter at the resort stores but no honey. I'm not sure Hess carries it either. I think there is a $50 minimum for the grocery delivery places. So, the honey I would definitely pack.

Maybe you could start a new thread to see who is at CBR and can check for you?

We've stayed at CBR numerous times but I've never noticed bread, this time it's POFQ which we haven't stayed at since it was Dixie Landings, so I can pack a loaf if I need to with the awesome ideas & I'll be good to go & if they do have bread there, I'll know where to go when I need more LOL.
