Packing a food suitcase! Under 50 lbs.

I swear I'm not flaming, just curious.
$31.00 kind of sounded like a lot of money to me for shipping.

No flaming from me. I agree, $31 is waaaay to much $ to spend on shipping alone.

We are a family of 3 and fly from Oregon and do not rent a car. What we do is order from gardengrocer.com and they deliver it to the resort. They have a great selection and good prices.

They have a $40 minimum order but that isn't a big deal by the time you order enough bottled water, bottled soda, sport drinks, breakfast foods and snack foods for 3 people for 8 days you have met the minimum. I figure $40 is a WAY better deal than $3 for one water in the parks!! We just fill up our free fridge (love fridge swaps!!) and are set for the week.

I would never mess with shipping stuff or packing my luggage full of bulky/leaky food/drinks...too much work involved :rotfl: We do pack snacks for the plane as a 7 hour flight with nothing but peanuts just doesn't work for me :lmao:

We are staying at all star movies july 1-7 and I called them to get my room number and the room I would be staying in so I could order food from gardengrocer. They told me they don't assign rooms until that day so how am I supposed to get it ordered in time when I have no idea what room to have it sent to?

We always rent a car, so we stock up on water, snacks, etc at Target or Wal Mart when we get down there, so I have never thought about sending the things ahead of time.

Now for my stupid question - if it costs $31.00 to ship a box, plus the time to carefully pack it and bring it somewhere to be shipped, are you REALLY saving enough to make it worth it? I guess I'm having a hard time with it because we're only a family of 3 so our snack budget isn't that much of an issue. Or is it just a convenienve thing since you don't rent a car?

I shipped a box down to VWL in early May and it was only $10.50 for USPS priority(2-3 day service). But then again I wasn't shipping bottles of water(ie weight). Had coffee, filters, ziplock bags of our favorite cereals(Kashi go lean and Life). Box of breakfast bars, can of pringles, couple of packs of micro popcorn and some sunscreen. We just buy the liquids and some fruit when we get there(water, OJ and milk). We eat breakfast in the room.

this may be a stupid question but how do yo weigh the suitcase?

Put it on your bathroom scale. We saw the family in front of us checking in on NWA at Thanksgiving get nabbed for overweight charges on 2 very large suitcases. I think it was over $100, but don't worry they take major credit cards. :rotfl:

This is a great post. I am going to use your food list for my trip June 18th. God Ideas. We like the same things!!
